‘TIS EASTER SUNDAY and it seems Microsoft is commemorating the resurrection with a little resurrecting of its own, dragging us away from our chocolate egg hunt with snooze, er, news that its talks with Yahoo are back on again.
After restraining himself from any talk of MicroHoo!! for the duration of Lent, Ballmer purportedly cracked like an Easter egg and met with Yahoo's new chief executive Carol Bartz face to face last week.
This time, however, it's not about a sell-out for some 30 pieces of silver, oh no. This time it's all about "partnership" involving various search and advertising opportunities according to the gospel from "a variety of sources" at Digital Daily.
Sceptics and non believers may have a hard time accepting that such a deal may indeed come to pass, especially since all logical proof points towards Microsoft forging ahead with its Kumo search plan.
In fact, Microsoft seems so hell-bent on creating its own all knowing, all finding search engine, it even converted Qi Lu - Yahoo's head of engineering for its Search and Advertising Technology Group - to lead the Volish crusade for search and online advertising.
With talks between Ballmer and Bartz said to be "preliminary and wide ranging", the holy hook-up is said to directly threaten the big G almighty itself (Google for those unversed in INQ blasphemy).
Google reigns over about 60 per cent of the search and online advertising market. Yawho? has a significantly smaller following with just 20 per cent of the market, while Microsoft search has yet to even achieve sect status.
So far, Bartz has managed to avoid crossing Yahoo shareholders by heeding lessons from her predecessor's painful, drawn-out crucifixion. She has also proved herself most adept at standing firm and praying for miracles from above.
Still, if Bartz manages to nail this deal, Yahoo could soon be looking at the bright side of life once again. µ
Live Search was always second rate, but even if it worked better, it wouldn't make a blind bit of difference. You simply cannot trust Microsoft to present you with pure and correct search-results. They cannot resist in showing you the results that suit their own agenda best.
If they ever want to change this, the road will be long and hard. And I doubt very much they CAN change at all?
So, Google seems to give better results with all those splogs and artifically inflated Wikipedia articles in their search results?
barayan, guugle results are going downhill lately, has to be said, much wading through "click me" spam pretending to be useful
as for Yoohoo's lower user base maybe this is why Java keeps trying to instal the Yeehaa tool bar under the guise of trivial updates
Sylvie, working on a Sunday, losing your religion?
Classy stuff Ms. Barak. See ya in a few.
It's ok to draw an analogy in the title, and reference it once in the article, but that was way too much cute stuff. I wouldn't recommend you include that particular article in your resume.
The Easter Bunny hopes that M$ will do its best to keep G$ search results honest. To be fair, the Easter Bunny always checks more than one search engine when the results count.
I'm an atheist, and I find the resurrection references crass, disrespectful and puerile. You need to be a little less uncaring in how you reference religious ideas honored by many faithful, especially around Easter. Shame on you.
Kumo versus Yahoo's engine is not the subject. This dialog has many more dimensions and is about minds and hearts, first landing pages on the internet, who "owns" the viewer, etc. I think it is great news if it doesn't get screwed up somehow.
Mr.-- get a life.
but i can't imagine the number and frequency of off-color jokes this name will engender. ms should learn to live in the real world. -- along with "Mr" no fun.
This article was well done. You gave use the news but did so in a creative, clever piece of writing. It was refreshing compared to much of the bland, tasteless writing we see technical publishing these days.
Not only would I include this in your resume, but I'd put it at the top of the list. Nice work.
Microsoft is the king of virus infections and insecurity...this seems to be their raison d'être.
So, it would seem reasonable to conclude that any customized "MicroHoo" search engine would be designed to specifically search out and display prime virus infection sites, to further this goal (and perhaps sell more "Micorsoft Windows Live Onecare" antivirus subscriptions, making even more money off the victimized in the process).
This all sounds very tempting, but I think that I will just stick with Google and Linux, and save myself the trouble, cost, and excitement of the ongoing "paranoia" of running Microsoft software and services.
Sylvie is Jewish. And in the typical Jewish custom, mockery of religion is common, not necessarily toward Christianity, which she took a cheap shot here, but also of her own faith.

I thought this article was cleverly written, with good information. What could have been a dry article was otherwise cheery and compelling.
As for ‘Mr.’ above I say get real, “disrespectful and puerile”, please you don’t even know what that means or you would have seen the irony in your childish statement. No one was pushing religion here but rather putting part of themselves into the article to make it come ‘alive’. Oops, that last line could have been construed as religious. I don’t believe in any particular religion but I do believe in freedom of speech and good writing.
Nice read Sylvie,

What FUD are you spreading here? If you have read this site (or any other tech sites for the matter), OneCare has been discontinued.
And concluding that Microhoo will only display malware sites is stupid on your part (intentionally), because Google does have their own share of malware sites too in their SERP. After all, they are the most popular search engine out there.
As Above, so below....
A Truly Blessed Article
Thank you Sylvie for taking the time to chisel out these tablets of news. On another subject, did all the other Inqsters go out Thursday and get so pissed they haven't turned up again, leaving you to hold the fort? If so they left the best behind. (ahem)
"If so they left the best behind. (ahem) " .... posted by : Whatever, 13 April 2009, A Truly Blessed Article.
Ahem ..... As much as one may love to, let's not go there by reason of good taste and this not being either the time or place. :-)
Sylvie,
That is an interesting development and especially so if Microsoft and Yahoo! have some Brand Spanking New Content/ProgramMING to Float into and onto the Virtual Space Market Place and which they would have AI and a Cloud Control Stake in Leading ..... for IT is the new Wild West Frontier in which to Boldly Go, is IT not .... Cloud Phormations and Future Control?
What you can be sure of, as sure as Easter Eggs are Easter Eggs, is that if the West fails to Invest in ITs Champions, the East will be Offered All that they would be Missing to Take Over as Master Pilot PathWAI Finders and may even be so Offered anyway, given that they may have the Necessary Deeper Zen/Tao in their DNA/Default Natural Algorithm.
And the Significant Mutually Beneficial Advantage/Virtual Monopoly Sector Advantage in a Joint Adventure with Both Leading in a Novel Singularity is surely Apparent..... although I suppose that depends upon the Relative State of Progress made in the Protocols and Processes/Algorithms which Driver Azure Platforms and ITs Virtual AIMachinery.
And it may be a simple case of anyone/everyone in the Field realising that there is an Already All Ready ProgramMING Applications with Feed/Need Tangents ... Fed/IOU Streams HyperRadioProActive in the Environment Monitoring and Mentoring AIR&dDevelopments ...... and Baiting Opportunities with Exposed Bare Traps for the Gold Digger into Naked Short Selling and Sweet and Sticky Honey Pots for the Diamond Geyser with Magnificent Molls.
