Microsoft claims backing for Windows phones

EA Mobile and My Space sign up
Tuesday, 31 March 2009, 12:06

Win-mobSOFTWARE giant Microsoft claims it has widespread industry support for its Windows Mobile 6.5 and Windows Marketplace for Mobile as well as new applications for Windows phones.

EA Mobile and MySpace are the latest to announce plans to deliver Windows phone applications through Windows Marketplace for Mobile. And the Vole is signing up designers to customise the interface to make it more of an interesting fashion statement.

The Vole said it already has 20,000 applications available through its various distribution partners. Vole's application store will go live later in the year a long way behind the competition. µ

Only now?

Too little, too late. The only reason Microsoft are doing anything about it now is because they are being forced into doing so out of pure embarrassment.

No thanks

I for one have grown tired of Microsoft's usual tactics and will search for an Android base phone when the time come to buy a new one...

Nothing new here...

I have been using my Win Mobile phone for almost 2 1/2 years and have always been able to find applications for just about any task I could dream up. All that's new here is MS taking a more active role in allowing people to find the apps so they can be cool like the Apple crowd.

What did these people do before the App Store? "OMG! I need software but it's not on the shelf at teh storz. Google? What's that?"

backo-stabo-Microsofto

I can just see the delight on the faces of these companies who decided to use WinMo when they find out that all the *new improved* features of the OS and the new *Micro-marketplace* are exclusively reserved for Microsofts own new *Microphone*(TM).

As it did with Internet Exploder, MS Office, etc., Microsoft does not like to see others making money, and will do its best to bludgeon others out of business using its money-pile. Only Microsoft deserves to make money.

For those who do not want to support these kind of business practices, there is always Android.

Windows mobile is good, but needs work.

I have a HTC Touch HD, a beautiful phone, 90% perfect. A major step forward for windows smartphones.

It falls down on simple stuff like text messaging. The dictionary usage is ker-lun-key-key key, it's so bad I have it turned off. I use dictionary always on my simple nokia.

Opera (3 tab pages) is better browser than Internet Explorer (no tabs).

Text Message - Add Recipient - John (press space then start surname) and it just shoves the first guy called John from my contact list. It will not let me write a surname for anyone when composing a text message.

SatNav, that expensive data google maps crap satnav is just a con to make you use data budles, which are expensive on my network in UK. Get yourself Tomtom for Windows Mobile, it rocks. It's exactly the same as the Tomtom you can buy as a gadget.
Instead it's in your phone.
So you always have SatNav with you.
And you can take the card out and plug it into your next Windows mobile phone.

Feedback to HTC and Microsoft - Where is this? I doubt it even exists. It should, surely it would be useful for refining the product based on actual customer requests.

Touchscreen is great, camera is great for photos in good light, ok for slow slow videos.

Opera web browsing, when the phone is tilted vertically, then horizontally, then back to vertically, the text on the page goes from perfect size, to perfect size to tiny tiny tiny size. Small bug.
