CHARLIE'S CHUM, Nvidia is upgrading its Quadro range of high-end scientific and engineering graphics chips.
The GPUs are targeted at scientific and engineering boffins and not for the great unwashed or gamers which make up Nvidia's normal customers.
According to the press release the chips include the FX 5800, with 4.0GB memory, priced around $3,100, the FX 4800, with 1.5GB memory, which will set you back $1,540, the FX 1800, $450, and the NVS 295, $130.

Under the bonnet of each chip will be the Nvidia Scalable Link Interface and Multi-OS, which allows 3D workstation virtualisation on the Quadro GPU. All this is new as far as graphics chips are concerned.
Nvidia said that with the SLI Multi-OS, applications and users can optimise productivity and costs through the use of multiple Quadro GPUs from a single workstation in a virtualised environment.
Quadro based workstations are on sale from Dell, Fujistu-Siemens, Hewlett-Packard, and Lenovo and the new chips are expected to be in the partner's machines soon. Individual cards are available from Nvidia's AIB partner PNY Technologies. µ
I wonder if I install Quadro FX 5800 4 GB mem on 32 bit Vista / XP / Linux. And I have 4 GB memory too. What sum of total memory VGA + PC that is available to use?
So they released a product with the same name as another product that has nothing to do with the new product. Brilliant.
The Quadro FX 5800 4GB is not 32bit os compatable unless you are using PAE. Windows 32bit can only address 4GB of memory this includes Ram, video memory, and a few other things. So with the Quadro FX 5800 4GB there wouldn't be enough address space to use it. Some 32bit Server os's have PAE. It allows you to address 36bits in stead of 32bits allowing you to address up to 64GB depending on the OS. Wiki has all the details on it here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physical_Address_Extension
The 4800 and 5800 have been out for a while, but the others are new.
Looks like they also announced the 3800, with very similar specs to the 4800.
