Intel’s new mini-ITX platform makes an unofficial appearance

Motherboard ships with mobile chipset
Tuesday, 31 March 2009, 00:09

MINI-ITX SYSTEMS PROVIDER Logic Supply has a pic and details of Intel’s upcoming mini-ITX mainboardIntel-d945gsejt-mini-it-board. Logic Supply says that the chip giant hasn’t yet officially announced this product.

The 945GSE mobile north bridge allows this board to be fanless. Previous non-mobile based designs shipped with a cooling fan on the north bridge.

Another spec that will be of interest to many is the height of the board - approximately 20mm, which will allow the use of thin enclosures.

The engineering samples that Logic Supply has on hand offer DVI, VGA, onboard LVDS, GB LAN, 2 SATA connectors, and a PCIe Mini Card slot for wireless connectivity.

Logic Supply says that even this improved offering from Intel falls short of what many of its embedded and industrial customers are demanding. What they really want is a dual-core Atom paired with a mobile chipset.

The release of this board is expected in the second quarter of this year. Additional Intel confidential pics and specs can be viewed at the link below. µ

Wasted PCI-E 16x

Tell me what should we do with them, and to allow the use of thin enclosures.

underclocked athlons

I remember reading how an underclocked brisbane on a 780g beat the pants off of the atom platform in terms of both performance and power consumption, all with passive cooling. Has amd done anything in this regard, or it letting intels in-order processor (have to go back to the original pentiums to find one of those) get a free ride to salesville?

@ Ed

There is a thing called riser card that many low-profile enclosures make use of. And PCI-E is not a waste at all. It is 100% backward compatible with x8,x4 and x1.

Damn riser cards

Intel cannot put a few Mini-PCIe slots on a Mini-ITX board?

almost no information

The author failed to mention CPU info... will it be Atom or something else. Also, no mention of RAM...

Anyways... it the board is capable of running HD video, it would be perfect for HTPC
