DELL HAS GRACED US with further details of its EqualLogic PS6000 series of storage arrays.
The firm announced its five new EqualLogic PS6000 storage arrays – the PS6000E, PS6500E, PS6000X, PS6000XV and PS6000S – this morning in San Francisco, noting they integrated 'seamlessly' into existing EqualLogic storage area networks (SANs) and formed something of a 'virtualised pool of storage'.

Pool or not, Dell is certainly hoping its servers make a splash and has bunged in some hardware and software from its PowerVault and joint Dell/EMC product lines.

Dell reckons the PS6000 series is some 91 per cent faster for sequential write workloads and up to 29 per cent faster for sequential read workloads when compared with its previous generation.

This will also apparently be the first EqualLogic generation to include an SSD array, with dedicated controllers and Dell is quick to point out the drives can be combined to scale performance linearly.

The PS6000 series can also apparently support over 500 TB of storage per PS Series group, which is rather impressive.
Of course, not wanting to miss out on the buzz-word 'virtualisation', Dell also pointed out its EqualLogic PS6000 series were VMware vStorage-ready and also supported Microsoft Hyper-V Smart.

Targetting the lower end of the market, Dell says its list pricing for the PS6000 arrays starts at $17,000 with pricing for the PS6000S, with the Solid State Drives, at $25,000. µ
