WEB ENTREPRENEUR and occasional hack, Mike Magee has had the rug pulled out from beneath him after the billionaire backers of his latest venture pulled in the purse strings.

Staff at IT Examiner's offices in Bangalore have just been told they have until the end of the month to clear out their desks.

Freelances, including a number that shuffled off to the Examiner from the INQ are left twiddling their thumbs as of today.

Magee's general news site the News is also getting the chop, we hear.

Magee famously founded the INQUIRER, after falling out with his erstwhile chums at the Rogister. After flogging the INQ to VNU over three years ago, Mike ventured off to Bangalore, backed by Metaplume, a company registered in the British Virgin Islands.

But today Metaplume pulled the plug and terminated the staff.

Magee told the INQ he is already planning his next venture. µ

Terminated?

Terminated the staff or just their contracts? The former seems a little harsh.

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
