CHINESE-OWNED BOX BUILDER LENOVO has announced a duo of workstations based on Intel's upcoming quad-core Nehalem chips.

The high-end ThinkStation D20 and low-end ThinkStation S20 workstations will run on Intel's  as-yet unlaunched Xeon 3500 and 5500 series dual-core and quad-core chips.

The processors belong to the Nehalem-EP line of server and workstation processors that Intel plans to officially roll out next week. Lenovo is the second outfit to announce that it is using the Nehalem chips. The other one makes fruit-themed toys for the very wealthy.

The S20 model will be sold for $1,070 and dual-socket D20 starts at $1,550. They will hit the shops later this month. µ

Those things are UGLY. Don't get me wrong, I'm no Apple fan-boy, nor am I a guy who really cares a whole lot what my box looks like. But seriously folks, the honeycomb looks good on it's own, until you get up to the 5.25 drive area which sticks out like a sore thumb. It looks more like a $39 newegg special than a $1500 box.

Wonder?

C'mon... I'm sure they are solid workstations indeed.. But I wouldn't buy a thing which have a handle on top of it - probably to ease carrying it back to the warranty service provider.
