Skype courts corporate calls

Business-to-business business
Monday, 23 March 2009, 10:28

FREE INTERNET CALL PIONEER SKYPE has announced it's branching out into the corporate world.

The Ebay-owned company has released new software called Skype for SIP (session intiation protocol) allowing companies to make calls using normal telephone handsets to land lines and mobiles for 2.1 cents per minute, and computer-to-computer VoiP calls for free.

The move could prop up Skype's flagging financial performance. The company has lost over 50 per cent of its market value since being acquired by the Internet auction giant in 2005. µ

With the US economy (as well as several other established economies) in the tank, wouldn't this be the perfect time to expand the business globally? Add some more countries to skype in? Start a strong marketing effort in emerging Markets?

Asterisk

I'm assuming this means skype is providing the Sip to Sis gateway so the business doesn't have to spend the money providing their own?
