JAVA-BASED STORAGE OUTFIT Wuala has merged with computer peripheral maker Lacie in what is being seen by some as an attempt to create a cloud-based storage service.

Wuala flogs 'social online storage' using a Java application to store and back up photos, videos, music and other types of content online which are then shared.

French company Lacie makes external storage devices and other products and is well-known to Mac users for its external HD and optical drives. µ
