GLOBALFOUNDRIES, the AMD semiconductor foundry spin-off which likes to shout its own name, has chosen itself a new senior vice president of sales and marketing.
Jim Kupec, whose CV boasts being President of United Microelectronics Company (UMC) and most recently, Chief Operating Officer of eSilicon, an ASIC design and manufacturing firm, will now flounder his way into driving customer acquisition at (*Caps) LOSTANDFOUNDRY.
GLOBALFOUNDRIES, owned in varying parts by AMD and Abu Dhabi based ATIC, will be actively soliciting top-tier chip-makers to use its chip shop, while continuing to wax lyrical about AMD being its first and most preferred customer. Until another firm brings in more lucrative business, of course.
"GLOBALFOUNDRIES is entering the foundry market at the right time and with the right business model to change the landscape of the industry," noted Kupec adding, "more importantly, we're entering the industry with the right mindset and resources".
In a statement, the firm's CEO, Doug Grose, said his GLOBALFLOUNDER would aim to be a "seamless extension" of customers' environments, "providing secure capacity, advanced technology and world-class support through global operations that they come to view as their own."
Let's hope the Green Goblin bears that in mind next week when possibly, as the rumour and speculation mill has it, Jensen may be meeting with GLOBALFOUNDRY bigwigs to determine whether to make GF NV's new BFF. µ
Looks like Glofo landed a guy with mighty meaty credentials. Now, if they could somehow get Hector the idiot out of there...
And yeah, the Green Goblin doing a deal with Glofo would be spot on, considering jensen's current fabrication woes.
