Cisco promises more Blade details

Blames Intel for a lack of detail
Wednesday, 18 March 2009, 17:27

CISCO appears to be about to milk the coverage of the launch of its Unified Computer System.
In the good old days, outfits used to announce products, give us a spec sheet and we would adjourn to the bar.

These days Cisco treated hacks to an hour's worth of speeches about its Unified Computer system but was light on the details. There was talk of another press conference being held to give us the gory details.

Collaring a few Cisco executives it seems that the reason they were a little non-specific was not because they wanted a second bite at the press cherry.

They blamed Chipzilla. It turned out that the Intel one did not want details going out on a new version of the Nehalem-EP server processor which will go under the bonnet of the Cisco Blade.

Intel has promised that the processor will be out in this quarter, but apparently not soon enough for Cisco's big press shindig.

The way the rumour mill is turning is that Intel will make an announcement on the Nehalem-EP, which will be released under the Xeon X55x0 family of processors, on March 30. Chipzilla is not saying anything to confirm this and Cisco says that this is just rumour and speculation.

However, we wouldn't mind betting that hacks will be summoned for another chat about the glories of Cisco's Unified Computer System... this time with a few more details. µ

hope not

The Cisco Blade will have dual Nehalem EP and upto 192Gb of memory.

Hope not better have more cpu and memory, if it only fits 8 blades in 10U.

The early memory rumor were 384GB, that would be nice with 4 cpu and a total of 24 cores.

Soap style marketing in IT

Really the latest IT news seem to look as soap powder marketing: "Our soap is the soapest in the world"

I'd advise IT-related media to decline publishing any of such annoncements - unless there is a technical data provided such news have no real value at all!
