Palit retreats from the US

Closing down the shop
Tuesday, 17 March 2009, 17:15

IT LOOKS LIKE Palit is doing the long-rumoured and closing shop in the US.

The brand, while strong in other regions, never seemed to hit critical mass in North America.

Expect an announcement about the closing soon, from what we hear, no other regions will be affected. µ

A no name third part vendor retreating?

Is this worth mentioning about? When I buy an nvidia videocard. I know one thing, the card will go bad its just a matter of when. This is why I buy evga, because in 90 days (if the videocard lasts that long) I pay the difference and upgrade to a newer card from nvidia. Not to mention the lifetime warrenty and 24/7 tech support. This isn't a shocker at all, EVGA is number 1 in the USA, now if they made ATI cards I would have preferred to purchase a 4870X2 from them instead of sapphire. I've used EVGA for 2 years I love them compared to the crap nvidia brands such as BFG, XFX, Leadtek, PNY which I've all used.So who the hell cares about Palit? They didn't offer any features like EVGA does which is mainly why theirs getting out of the usa.
Its gotten to the point I buy ATI cards until nvidia stops shrinking the G92 chip for the 5th time...

@Nigel

Got to love the ignorance from Nigels comment. Palit is not no name third party vendor. They in fact own about 60% of the graphics market in asia and 40% in Europe, but you know, thanks for trying and all.

Clever US

Heh! Seems like the americans at least know what they are buying :P

@Rebellion

Please forgive me for not expanding my knowledge of a videocard manufacturer that is leaving the USA. I'd like to thank Palit for trying and failing in US markets. Palit did about as well in the USA just as much as your small minded comments toward me, they failed.

@Nigel & Rebellion

Nigel is pretty much right about this one; EVGA destroys. I own one as well, those cards are built to last. I've also had an XFX card as well. It lasted me a good 4 years before it kicked the bucket. Not too bad if you ask me. But overall, XFX cards are damn good.

Back to the topic here: Palit owning 60% of the market in asia and 40 in europe? Sure, Rebellion, you may be right about that, but this is America we're talking about here. Big and popular in foreign countries, but crap in the U.S. Actually, I've never even heard of Palit until I read this article, comes to show how much of the market they really consumed of in the U.S. right?

All in all, this article means nothing to me since I'm an XFX & EVGA fanboy. I love debates, NVIDIA FTW!!!

You guys really are genius...

The more third party vendors, more competition in that market, more rebates, more promotions, better prices...

Do I need to talk about the reverse?

THINK guys.

Yay, more comedy relief!

Well, to "Nigel" and "James", I am also in the states, yet I heard of Palit. Am I all hurt they are leaving? No. But I actually am not so "USAcentric" that I drool, fart and then say "Palit who?" when I read this article. Then again, I ALSO comprehend that this site is read by people in, oh I don't know, places other the the United States. You know, nations other then the USA do exist. SO, simply because an article isn't of interest to YOU doesn't mean it might not be of interest to others. Then again, I see that Nigel and Richard are brand fanboi's. Fanboi's always make me giggle. Like what I said about electronics in another article, I shall say about a brand. It's a company, a corporation. They aren't your mom, or your girlfriend. They aren't even your favorite pet poodle. They care about as much about you as the fanboi's who posted "Palit who?" care about Palit. :P To be a fanboi of some piece of electronics directly or a company that makes them is a waste of emotions, believe me. But oh well, fanbois will be fanbois. And USAcentric people, who think the world revolves around them will be such too. C'est la poop!

@Nigel: Typical American Nvidiot

Grow some sense in you ffs! Nvidia cards are not bad. You can safely ignore Charlie because he runs a propaganda against Nvidia as does Anand for AMD. I own the meanest badest Nvidia card (9800Gx2) and it has yet to pop- 6 months and counting. EVGA's technical service is top-notch no doubt, but the quality of their cards is the same as those made by Palit. EVGA is Nv's bi.tch, as in, they simply copy the reference board design, hammer their logo on the cooling fan, and brag about #1 USA... USA #1111. WTF! you suck. Unlike EVAGINA, Palit, BFG, and Leadtek are known to design their own boards with substantially better cooling design. Go look @ Palit's NV and ATI lineup. Most of their cards feature Zalman-like GPU coolers, and cost less than the so called reputed brands. What innovation does EVGA bring on the table? I can't tell you how stupid their upgrade policy is. If you had some brain in you, you would realize that graphics card have a 6 months cycle. Assuming you bought a GTX285 from EVGA today, what card will you upgrade to in the next 90 days? lol @ urself

@Nigel

Why don't you buy an ATI card from Pailt then? lol.

Check out their HD4670...killer price...dual-slot cooler...hdmi/displayport all connectors on board.

Other things aside...
I've been using Palit cards for a while no problems whatsoever. BTW, I'm not from USA.

The reason I think Palit doesn't fair well in USA is coz they hardly do any marketing...I've rarely seen any Palit billboards in tech-shops...I've seen Sapphire,Powercolor,XFX etc. mostly.

Palit rarely. With that said I think in USA you need more marketing to sell your product.

With that said I haven't seen any Palit cards on Newegg either which doesn't help their cause. So it's better off they're shutting shop over there.

Other things from Palit...I bet many people haven't heard off BFG,Albatron outside off USA.

palit...

... owns gainward, maybe that's a name that's familiar. They do make some damn nice cards as evidenced here:

Peanuts

Considering the size of the Asian and European markets compared to the US market, perhaps Palit concluded that the US market is not worth the effort.

Nevermind, more Palit cards for me!

Shame really, I've got a Palit 8800GTS from the 320MB launch and it's been OC'd the whole time and still works.

The US is missing out now.

Palit was good while it lasted

I bought a Palit 4870 from Newegg last year. it was a great price and a great non-reference coller that allowed me to overclock like hell. It's sad to see good manufacturers or non-reference cards leavee the market. I agree that they didnt market at all and that may have been one of the many reasons it failed.

Too bad

Palit really makes some nice stuff. Its too bad they have to pull out of the US. Ive been wanting a QUIET 4870X2, that isnt water cooled, for quite awhile now. I guess the AC aftermarket cooler for my 4870X2 is next.

Ive always been impressed with their innovation with their coolers and PCB design. Easily on par with Sapphire.

Chalk this one up as a loss for US customers.

Sad to see them go !

These guys were really good in sponsoring LAN's. They sponsored PDXLAN a few times and the rep from Palit name Dave was one of the coolest guys you could meet.

Silly Yanks

The comments here go to show that Charlie aside those inbreeds across the pond really are as stupid as they sound.

Get over it - US market is really quite insignificant to most vendors - and all of the daft rebating and incentive buying that goes on doesn't mix with the prudent business savvy of our Taiwanese friends. It goes like this - why should EMEA, ASIA and RIM customers suffer through the rebating required to maintain any kind of North American presence.

So because the US public gets spoiled and spoon fed by the Fry's and Tiger Direct's of this world - we elsewhere have to pay the "levelling cost". That's what makes the likes of Palit cards such great value for us - for every card we buy we don't give some silly yank some money towards thes.

Famous Frog Jumping Away From Boring USA!

It's a petty for americans because Palit makes good video cards and it is very popular in Asia and Europe. It also tends to be cheaper in price and offers good quality.

Anyway, luckily that I don't live in the boring USA and I am proud of myself for not being american.

Great Famous Frog Says that US market Sucks!

US market sucks and Palit is no longer interest in doing business with yankees. That is why they are jumping away and find other better places to do business! No more Palit for yankees! Sorry, but that's the way it is.

Do they use other brand names?

I wonder where they sell in Asia? I've never seen a card branded as Palit, and its a long time since I saw one branded as Gainward. Do they sell under other brand names, too.

posted by : Steve Underwood, 20 March 2009 Complain about this comment
You silly too

If you only saw one branded as Gainward and you never knew Palit you never knew anything about NVidia except they have a green badge. Palit made NVidia and more forgive me far eastern folk enjoy games on older series cards still pumped out of TSMC than your narrow mind ever could imagine.

There is a big old world out there and a big channel - shame you and these yanks are completely unaware of it!!!

Palit high ends cards are good.

I've been selling computer parts, and have been a computer technician for over 7years.

The first time i heard about Palit, i thought it was a junk. Ive been selling Asus videocards, Leadtek, Inno3d, and Gecube. Not until I tested Palit 8500gt, that i sold over 25 of them in a computer gaming store. For 3 years i did not hear any complains from my client. Since then i tried to sell Palit video cards.

But do not choose their low ends cards. They sucks.

Im using right now a 9800gt 1gb sonic for 2 years.

I don't know about pulling out form US, but i think its about culture. It is not easy to penetrate market where some of the competing brands are good as well. And one of the reason also is the economic problem the country is facing and one of the market sector that are affected are the electronic based companies.

Bye bye Palit

Palit will not be missed. For nvidia AIBs, it's always going to be between XFX and eVGA for me (killer warranties and upgrade plans). All I saw from their camp were videocards with ridiculous amounts of vRAM and therefore overpriced, or budget cards with a budget warranty to match.

Nigel is a moron

Yeah, he's an arrogant mong sandwich. Gives you americans a bad name. What an idiot...him going on like he knows everything. When people do that they will always say something wrong and look like an idiot. Nigel did it a lot.

eVGA are nothing special, you pay a premium for their step up program. Why is that so great? Why would you want a step up program? Why don't you just buy what you want at the time you want it? Who upgrades their graphics card every 3 months?

Nigel....lol every nigel I've know is a douche.

You with me guys?

can't understand why do they retreat?

Were they overwhelmed by returns rate?
By cost of running an office in the US?
By US rebates policy? IMHO to leave the US market to the likes of EVGA and Nigel is plain stupid.

P.S. Palit owns Xpervision brand besides Gainward AFAIK
