VIRTUAL ITUNES GIFT CERTIFICATES to the value of $200 are on sale in Chinese shopping site for as little as $2.60.

Music industry consultancy Outdustry is reporting that thousands of cards are on sale at any given time on Taobao, the Chinese equivalent of Ebay.
The owner of the online shop told Outdustry that the codes were obtained using key generation (keygen) software and admitted that he had paid hackers to do the dirty work.
Gift voucher codes are sent using the site's instant messaging software and are paid for using Alipay, which operates much like Paypal and is used by the majority of the Chinese banking system.
Apple could stay on top of the crims by refreshing the algorithm used to generate its purchase codes, but that could leave it with millions of invalid cards out in the wild which would need to be recalled and scrapped. µ

What happened to the UNHACKABLE Apple? Every time I hear "switch to the fruity co as noone ever hacks and no viruses exist" I say .... yeah cus noone can be bothered to write a virus for the 5 people using fruity loops.
Go China!
People have no shame at all these days. Just because you made money does not make it right. Wait, people have been like that for a long time now...
I'm astonished it took this long for the script kiddies to crack apple...
Apple should speak out about this issue so that buyers can make an informed decision. Staying silent somehow legitimizes these sellers. For more on this, see my blog post on this - http://blog.giftcardrescue.com/stolen-itunes-gift-card-codes-sold-online/
Every time I've heard Apple fans talk about "security" in relation to MacOS X, I have always laughed at them.
Episodes like this are a case in point: Obscurity is no substitute for security.
