MEMORY MAKER KINGSTON has a had a pretty good 2008 by all accounts racking up $4 billion in global sales despite the headless chickens of the world's press force-feeding us on a diet of despair and despondency.

Even a drop-off of half a billion dollars from record sales in 2007 could do little to dent the enthusiasm of Kingston top dog David Sun who, along with John Tu, announced that the company had boosted the number of chips it had put out of the door by 41 per cent.

And rather than panicking about upsetting its millionaire owners and sacking staff left, right and centre, the pair are taking a measured approach to the global glitch. "Kingston, like our competitors, was affected by the industry downturn and memory chip saturation of 2008," said Tu. "However, our strong finances and solid cash reserves allowed us to remain nimble and flexible as we adjusted and adapted to the ever-changing market conditions. We consider ourselves very fortunate to be in a secure position given the current state of the economy."

And rather than watching the sky for signs that it might be falling in, Sun is cheerfully upbeat about the future. "The storm is not over yet, but we will be alright moving ahead. Since our employees are as determined as John and I, and we have the continued support of our partners, vendors and customers, we know things will work out just fine."

Ah... we can all stop worrying then. µ
