Life may have no meaning. Or even worse, it may have a meaning of which I disapprove - Ashleigh Brilliant
WE TOLD YOU about the laptops from Gigabyte a few days ago, and now it is time for the motherboards and GPUs. Not much unexpected, just solid products.
GA-IBP Socket 1166 board
The first one is a P55 based board called the GA-IBP. Given the delays behind the lower end Nehalems, don't look for this until they come out in Q3 sometime. The boards look polished overall, so I don't expect any mobo based delays.
Next up is the GA-MA790FXT-UD5P, an AMD socket AM3 board based on the 790FX. We have several variants of this in AM2+ format, including 790GX and 790FX versions, and they all are great boards. The AM3 version is worth a hard look if you are going to be building an AMD system soon.
GA-GC-330UD Atom board
For those who want an Atom based motherboard for some unknown reason, but don't like the quality of the ones on the market, Gigabyte brings you the GA-GC-330UD. This one introduces all the Ultra-Durable features to the world of really small and inexpensive PCs. Since it is backed by the i945, you can experience the speed of a three-legged gerbil on quaaludes, but that isn't Gigabytes fault. It will run that asthmatically for years with this build quality.
See the card through the holes?
Gigabyte didn't stop there though, the Ultra-Durable construction has proved to be a market winner, so now it is moving to graphics cards. Yes, you can now get a passively cooled Geforce 9600, the GV-N96TSL-1GI. The idea on this one is to allow air to flow out of the case, and with parallel fins and huge holes you can see through on the end plate, it looks like Gigabyte did it. This card just looks cool. µ
...to read a decent bit of journalism from Charlie (and the rest of the CeBit coverage). Long may it last.
...This is the second piece of goodness from Charlie D in the past week and I must say it takes me back to his older days and I like it.
I hate to say this, but a passively cooled 9600 GT (from Gigabyte) has been out for ages and so has their 4850.
The "old" 9600 GT passive may not be an "Ultra Durable", however it does have solid capps. What more could you want on a budget card?
