The truth will out. But will it be out in time? - Mike Magee
ENERMAX USUALLY DOES some interesting things with power supplies and fans, and this year is no exception. They had everything from high efficiency PSUs to multi-LED fans.
The revolution is here, and it is silver certified comrade
One thing Enermax has been preaching for a long time is that its PSUs have 12-pin headers on the removable cables, so they can support much higher power densities per cable. The Revolution 85+ is an 80+ Silver certified PSU with not one but four 12-pin headers and six accessory headers.
It puts out 1250W so between the capacity and headers, you can power about any system that makes sense to build. If you want to build something truly silly, just buy a few extra cables from them, and off you go.
There are also smaller versions of the Revolution, and even an 80+ Gold version coming soon. That complements the smaller Eco line of products, all 80+ certified, that use the batwing Magma fan we told you about last year.
Fans - now with more bling per blade
Since we are back to fans, and Enermax has a new twist on them as well. This time they are putting more LEDs inside of a fan. The 12cm fans have up to 15 of them, small diameters have less. Instead of mounting them in the housing, Enermax makes a LED ring and inserts it between the housing and blades. This is either really neato or a plague on humanity, mostly depending on whether the case manufacturer puts on off switch on the LEDs.
This case is not screwed
One of the more interesting devices is much more pedestrian, an external case for 2.5" HDs. These are a dime a dozen, but the Enermax version is totally screwless. If you didn't get this from the name, Zero Screw Design II, let me go into a bit more detail. There are two buttons on the side, press them and the top hinges open. You drop the HD into it and close the lid. Nice idea, and easy enough to do.
Last up we have laptop cooling stands, and the big innovation this year is smaller. Coolermaster is introducing a version with a shorter wrist rest due to customer demand. I had no idea that customers cared about that kind of thing, but I guess I am wrong. Now they have the short wrist-rest cooler that they really need. µ
I HATE led fans! God do I hate them. They're an abomination too look at and ruin any case you put them in. And they're all I can find at the local big box if I need one quick.
eaxctly *hate* LED fans, but I'm not a fan either *cough*.
But. If they were to make these in 18" size that rotated real slow I'd buy a bundle and install them on the big subwoofers they use in discos. I do that sort of thing.
They also make them even bigger, like a metre in diametre -then I could build a wall of them.
