Tweeter up before the beak

I tawt I taw a gangbanger
Friday, 6 March 2009, 11:45

FLAVOUR O' THE WEEK WASTE OF TIME TWITTER has ended up in court in the US... in the hands of a news journalist.

Wichita Eagle hack Ron Sylvester (insert your own Tweety Pie joke here) has been given permission to post live tweets from inside a federal court room for the first time ever.

Sylvester is covering the trial of six members of the notorious Crips gang who are accused of racketeering.

Recording devices and cameras are banned from all federal courts during criminal trials so this unprecedented move represents a clear step forward for public access to the US legal system.

As long as you can describe what's going on in less than 140 characters. µ

Remember when..

Remember the good old days when people had a 30 second attention span. Now it's 140 characters. I wonder why they bother to get out of bed?

Crips 4 Life

Sorry, I had to post this, any mention of the Crips makes me think of South Park

Article does not meet tweeter spec

Should have tried to make an example by limiting news item of 600 charaters to 140.

Wichita Eagle hack

Thanks for the shout-out. It has been interesting. Although I file posts 140 characters at a time, I file multiple posts throughout the day. I added up one day's worth of tweets and it was the equivalent of an 80-inch newspaper story. My stories for the print edition are limited to 25 inches. What I've learned is people won't read an 80-inch story on a trial in the paper but they will read it 140 characters at a time. So followers actually end up spending more time (and a greater attention span)and getting more detail. Plus, the people who follow indicate they are not ones to read the newspaper. BTW, love the cartoon.
