BRITISH CHIP SHOP ARM has snapped up a five per cent holding in Japanese enbedded software company Esol.

Esol currently develops System on Chip operating systems based on ARM's architecture for the car industry. These conform to the Automotive Open System Architecture (Autosar).

An Esol spokesbod told Tech-On that the sale of the outstanding shares did not entail any exclusive contracts, adding: "It is possible that we will offer hardware equipped with ARM's CPU core and Esol's real-time OS as a package, but the business neutrality of the companies will remain intact.

"Esol has thus far provided real-time OS and software development environment for various CPU cores including ARM's, and we will continue to pursue that policy." µ
