Tuesday, 3 March 2009, 11:32

SKYPE IS TEAMING UP with Spinvox, to launch a  voicemail-to-text conversion service Skype voicemail users today.

Spinvox converts voice messages to text in English, Spanish, French and German. The messages are then sent by Skype as an SMS text directly to a designated mobile phone for users to read.

Mike Bartlett, director of product strategy at Skype reckons people are spending more time on the move and on their mobile devices, and they want to take their Skype conversations with them. "Spinvox is a great option for our users to save time on checking their Skype voicemail and receive messages immediately sent to their mobile phone."

Each voicemail to text conversion will cost €0.20/ £0.17/ $0.25 plus the cost of sending an SMS at standard low Skype rates. Additional SMS charges - a maximum of 3 - may apply depending on the length of the voicemail message.

Skype claims more than 405 million registered users globally.

Is there a voice command app for mobile phones?

I have a fancy schmancy phone which doesn't have a proper keypad, just a touchscreen keyboard. This means I need both hands to write a text message, or scroll for a contact to call.

I need voice command so I can write a text message without using any hands at all.

Can this skype thing do that? If not, do you know something that will?

ok, you said it was a fancy phone but didn't say what it was. Also, i'm not sure if these will help with the specific texting situation, but...

If it's a WinMo phone try -http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/downloads/microsoft/about-voice-command.mspx, or here are reviews+ -http://www.blogcatalog.com/topic/windows+mobile+voice+command/ (look under the "Social Search" tab in blue at the bottom.

If it's an ifawn, try -http://www.macnn.com/articles/08/12/03/voice.app.for.iphone/

You can do a search specific to your phone model if it's none o those. Again, maybe those aren't the answer to voicing a text, but maybe when u read up you'll find something useful to that end.
