NOKIA has found a plaice in the record books after one of its phones was found working after a week inside a fish.
British businessman Andrew Cheatle was walking his dog, just for the halibut, when the Nokia 1600 fell out of his pocket and was swept out to sea.
He told the Sun he kept calling the phone to see if there was any reply but he cod nothing. In he end he gave up.
While he was shopping for a new phone, his girlfriend got a call from a bloke who had caught a 25lb cod which had gobbled up the phone before it had its chips.
Glen Kerley used Cheatle's SIM to make the call to a number he found in the address book and had to assure them both that it was not a red herring.
The Nokia was not in entirely A1 condition and smelt a lot of inside of a fish, which is something that the bible story of Jonah falled to mention.
His biggest problem was cats following him around until he could get rid of the smell. µ
this story actually looks to be true, turned up on the web last week.. happened in N.I.
The fone would turn on but that was about it...
the sim lives on in another handset, the nokia HAS had its fish 'n chips ;)
"NOKIA has found a plaice in the record books after one of its phones was found working after a week inside a fish."
"Glen Kerley used Cheatle's SIM to make the call to a number he found in the address book"
...If the guy only used the SIM to make the call; then that has absolutely ZERO to do with the phone itself.
Does the writer of this article even know what a simcard is? Doesn't seem like it.
It's no surprise that the simcard would have survived a dip in the ocean and a stay in a fish's belly - those little cards are tough as nails.
I'm really happy for the guy. Replacing your phone can be such a haddock it often takes a whale of a time to get it all done. It leaves you feeling kelpless until you do. Still with all the press you have to wonder if the guy did it on porpoise. Sorry, had to.
I really am enjoying the technical huff posters are being put in by this story.
It's a freakin story about a Cod fish man, it's a cod fish story.
You can't beat these stories with a stick. They rock.
I am having a really hard time not making a fishing pun.
omgosh this is torturous.
I just read it again and noticed they took the SIM Card out, I *MIGHT* buy that still working. But the headline "Nokia phone works week in belly of a fish" is completely misleading, I severely doubt the phone itself was still working.
I accidentally took a dip in the atlantic with a car alarm remote in my pocket. It was fully corroded inside by the end of the day from the salt.
I call BS on this. No way would the electronics have survived salt water. What "Sea" was this? And even in fresh water, I've heard of phones pretty much dying instantly from being submerged.
It sims like a load of cods-wallop.
Was his phone battered?
His nokia should have had it's chips.
