When your work speaks for itself, don't interrupt - Garson Kanin
A HONG KONG SITE RECKONS it knows what AMD Phenoms we can expect to see over the coming months.

After spending some time trying to work out what Google's translator makes of the story, we gave up.
In short the nuts and bolts of it are:
A quad-core (Deneb) Phenom II X4 955 should tip up next month, running at 3.2GHz with 8MB cache.
In May comes a Dual Core (Callisto) Phenom II X2 550 running at 3.1GHz with 7MB cache.
Also in May comes a Phenom II X2 545 running at 3.0GHz and also sporting 7MB of cache.
We can't really see the point of that though.
We'd ask AMD about the story but all its PR representatives in the UK have been sacked so there's not much point in making a fuss until the US wakes up anyhow. µ

With 8 MB they mean 4x512KB L2 and 6MB L3 obviously, nothing special here.
The only interesting news is that they'll release Deneb-based dualcores with clocks of 3 GHz and higher, should give Intels E7x00 series a run for their money.
3.1GHz was a stupid frequency anyway.
3.1GHz is like I want to, but I can't.
any idea if this quad will be 'BE'?
And are we needing a 128bit/256bit cpu to get round the 4GHz speed limit, or just for compilers/coders to hurry with the multi-core programming move?
How do we get more bang per cpu unit? Do we need more bits or more cores?
Is there going to be a cpu which can run new games at full speed for the next 5 years, instead of only for 2-3 years.
Should we be looking at 1024 bit cpu's for the near future?
Can you guys at The Inq do a tech info piece about this, or some other prediction of where we are going, and any suggestions of what could be a better way?
This slow 16bit, 32bit, 64bit cycle has taken decades, shouldn't there be a big shove and we just skip a generation or 4 by going straight to 1024 or 2056bit?
Just wrt games: I don't think it really matters about games and a five year span. I propose that given that (1) most games still do not exploit 4 cores well; (2) there hasn't been a new idea since the shotgun or maybe BFG in high end games; therefore the game developers have a lot of CPU headroom and a *lot* of conceptual space to fill.
Not to say there is anything wrong with shotguns and BFG. I enjoy a good FPS... too bad there hasn't been a new idea in FPS's since, well, Quake I.

Are you expecting that to happen anytime soon? I've been waiting for this phenomenon to occur my entire life...
The original article said something like this:
"According to Taiwanese motherboard(?) manufacturers the yield of the 45nm Denab chips were higher than expected. So they will cancel the April release of Phenom II X4 950, but will ship Phenom II X4 955 which has higher clock rate of 3.2GHz(in April).
This chip will use AM3 socket, have 8MB of Cache, TDP of 125W. Expected to be released in mid April.
The two dual core version (code named Callisto) -- Phenom II X2 545/550 will be shipped in mid May, clock rates would be 3.0GHz and 3.1GHz repectively. They differ from the Athlon X2 family in that they have 6MB of L3 cache memory design, the TDP will be 85W vs the Athlon's 65W.
The price of the chips are not confirmed."
Hope this helps
I feel just so outdated and guilty that I haven't spent more money, could be the reason for the economic crash. I'm still using an 939 opteron 165 oc'd to 3ghz and can play all the games that are out their with my 4870x2 Ati on a 24" screen. What must I do to feel better. All my hard earned money went to other things that my family could use. I'm fit to be tied and horse whipped. Thier must be some oufit that can take my hand and show me the way to a brighter tomorrow.
I have a dual core opteron 165 socket 939 overclocked to only 2.25ghz and a 9800GTX+ on a 22in monitor. This setup plays most games on high settings with ease.
How do u get yours to 3ghz? post here, it will be fine to hijack the inq's comments ;-)
@hoohoo, new games are just rehashes of older games. There are so many average fps's it's a joke. I tried the Call of Juarez demo, you're 2 different cowboys who's stories converge. Needs a bit of work but a good idea.
Gaming has become too Hollywood, if one game sells well then every production house goes down the same route with similar games. Money chasers with no imagination are in charge, means gaming will become duller and repetitive until only youth buy most new games because anyone over 24 will have already bought it at least 3x.
The remake and the sequel are already here and it's going to get worse.

With the memory you have to use the devider in your bios. I've had this Mushkin for two years and I was told that I would need at least a 800 watt, I disappointed the industry again, oh no my guilt is starting to surface.
You have a great cpu their interested_party just about all of the 165 opterons can get to 3ghz on air. Heck you still have few years left if your MB can OC for you. Good luck.
So you're saying AMD is releasing new models with the amount of cache they already have. "Phenom to get fat cache" is a great news headline if you're living 6 months ago.
L3 is crap anyway. I want 1MB of L2 again.
You do know that the l2 cache of Nehalem (256kb) is half of that of Phenom (512kb).
So will this Dual Core Phenom II be like the Tri-Core one?
In most off the tri-core Phenom II's the 4th core with cache can be enabled with ACC on in BIOS. Handful off motherboard's support it though.
Dual core Phenom II might be next on my upgrade list if that's going to be the case.
