Innovation is a lot like new, except it's got more letters in it
MORE FOLKS AT AMD will be packing their belongings into boxes and joining the overcrowded unemployment queue today, as the INQ has learned a fresh round of layoffs is underway.
Understandably angry and hurt employees have been making their frustrations public on social not-working site Facebook.

When the INQ asked senior sources at AMD if they cared to comment, we were told "no", but then, as an afterthought, one added "it's a sad day". Which is as good as confirmation in our book.
It is indeed a sad day, and we wish those who came into work this morning, only to be made redundant, all the best and speedy re-employment. µ
UPDATE: A short while after publishing this story, we were contacted by an AMD spinner with an official statement which reads: "We did have a workforce reduction today, part of the previously communicated 900 position reduction we announced earlier this year. Today's action impacted less than 50 people in North America, primarily in general and administrative functions. Previous actions have taken place this quarter at our manufacturing sites in Asia."
Yes..
It is indeed a sad day.. Good luck getting a new job, fellas.. :\
Guys and Gals no longer at AMD, look at this as a chance to do the things your bosses at AMD wouldn't let you do, the projects and ideas that you never got the chance to start there, start your own business, who knows, when the recession is over, if you have a bit of IP under your belt, could be worth a bit of money.
If AMD didn't lay off people in a world wide economic depression, they'd catch Hell for not being fiscally responsible. If they do lay people off they catch Hell for being responsible business managers. It's a no win situation for AMD at The Inkwell.
SOS, DD.
According to the AMD spinner, it seems that the individuals who got pink slips were those in the administrative/commercial departments. The ones in Asia probably are from the assembly/testing facilities. Well, as long as they didn't fire engineers or people crucial to the CPU/manufacturing department, then, I guess they are safe. Anyhow, I feel really sad for those who lost their jobs and all we can do is pray for them so that they can get something good in the short term.
When Obama was made president oficialy CNN had this live Facebook thing. I saw a guy there who worked at AMD. He stated he hoped Obama would buy an AMD laptop so he could keep his job.
When I left tech I joined the Army. Treated me a hell of a lot better than those corporate scumbags. Hope I never go back to that corporate tech bullshit now. Went to work in a civvie hospital with the training the Army gave me as a medic.
Best of luck.
This BS is starting to get on my nerves.
How's a company (Not just AMD) supposed to make money when they put their primary customer base out of work?
Today: Layoffs? sure.. Lets lay off all the people in North America..
Month later... Why are we still loosing money..
HELLO!!!! Y'all put your primary buyers on the streets!!! REMEMBER! Your lower paid "off shore" employees can't afford the products when they ARE working. It's mostly North American, and European consumers that buy the stuff!!

LoCatus
Er, LoCatus, that's not how it works. Most of AMD's customers are *not* their employees, and it'd be foolish to use that logic as justification for employment. If they were it'd be like blowing into your own sails, trying to move your boat.
It's not like the higher-paid employees of AMD spend more on their own products, even with the corporate discounts. There's only so much you can buy and a few thousand more processors sold isn't going to make a huge amount of difference when an employee can be paid more in a single year anyway.
