Nvidia-powered mini console spotted

Hornet

A TURKISH WEB SITE has leaked pictures of what purports to be a Wii-style gaming console from Acer.

The Acer Hornet is based on Nvidia's Ion platform, and sports an Intel Atom chip.

Sources close to one of  the firms confirmed to the INQ that the device will launch in the first week of April and that it's the first Ion design win for Nvidia.

"There are 3-4 SKUs," noted our source, adding it would be priced between $199 to $399 and be a "Full PC... with a Wii-like size".

Unlike the Wii, the Hornet will also have an HDMI output and the ability to play a number of PC games. Seeing as ION only sports 16 stream processors, however, don't expect to be able to play them at particularly high settings. µ

throw some emulation software on it.

"particularly high settings" Bet it does them higher than the Wii does. Probably plays old school games fine. Quakelive.com anyone? Probably streams netflix just fine, plays shockwave.com fine. Plays the stuff you just pirated off the net fine. Web/Email in higher res than the Wii. Throw a bluray drive option in it and that would make it interesting. Probably need to keep your Tivo still.

Not a console

It's not a console, its a "Eee Box" just take one of the netbook eeepc things pull the monitor off and add a hdmi connector.

Asus and Dell are both marketing similar products.
