Intel Israel aims to avoid redundancies
INTEL ISRAEL celebrating its 35th year, admitted to a 10 per cent revenue slump in 2008 to $1.39 billion, but blamed that on Intel's spin-off of flash memory maker, Numonyx, as well as the closure of Chipzilla's Jerusalem fab.
But the standard of Israel's engineers will apparently save Intel Israel the unpleasant task of having to lay-off staff according to Maxine Fassberg, Intel Israel General Manager,veep of the firm's technology/manufacturing Group, and Fab 28 plant manager.
Intel employees a whopping nine per cent of Israel's entire high-tech workforce and has managed to secure 1.1 billion dollars in Israeli government incentive to add to the seven billion dollars Intel global has invested in fab 28.
In a press conference alongside Ron Friedman (vice-president and general manager of Intel's mobile microprocessors group), Oren Reese (joint head of Fab 28) and Dan Eldar (deputy CEO of Intel Wimax group), Fassberg promised: "My aim is to prevent layoffs [in Israel]".
Intel Israel is certainly not shy about blowing its own trumpet. The Israelis claim the country's subsidiary has been instrumental in developing the latest Montevina platform with Penryn processor and improved Wifi capabilities, Vpro, Intel's BIOS-level remote management tool and fourth generation Wimax.
"It's hard to describe the magic of the technology we are building" gushed Oren Reese.
"All the most important Intel products have a bit of Israel inside" quipped Ron Friedman, who added Chipzilla's High K metal gate technology was also being spearheaded in Israel because, "we know how to do it better".
Friedman also hinted Intel's super star Atom chip may start making waves in the Red Sea, noting, "There is a good chance Atom will be manufactured in Israel in the future".
Fassberg added she held "great expectations" for Israel to push forward to 32nm technology, followed soon after by 25nm process tech. She also announced plans for Israel's former Jerusalem Fab 8 to be renamed International Die Prep Jerusalem (IDPJ), adding that Intel's R&D facility in Jerusalem would remain open.
Asked whether Intel's plans to expand operations in Israel included investments in the Palestinian territories, Fassberg noted "there is a will in Intel, as well as in Israel, to invest beyond the green line, but we need political as well as business partners on the Palestinian side in order to do so." µ

I hesitated to post this because 'prior art' comments are usually the opening of bootless debates.
Nevertheless, Oren, of your list Intel did develop x86 CPUs, but except for the x86 instruction set - an implementation detail - the rest of your list has antecedents.
I don't like the 'prior art' arguments... virtually ANYTHING that AMD or Intel does has some prior art somewhere else. I think the comment above on stuff that was 'invented' in Israel was meant to read this is where it started within Intel.
There was a string internal division within Intel during the P4/Core (dothan) days. A lot of this had to do with the 2 different design groups and I think any honest engineer would have seen what was the right design to build upon. It took Intel far longer to make this decision then it should have as I think their was a lot of personal issues thrown into the decision mix.
Having worked with some Israeli companies, I might suggest that some folks here consider there may be some cultural differences and it may not truly be an ego thing; if you are not familiar with the culture, I can see how this would come across as ego, but I don't think that is the case (in general - I'm sure Israel has just as many ego-driven folks as the next country)

Israel has more engineers per capita then Germany (highest in Europe).
And yes almost every important corporation have R&D facility in Israel. We do have things to be proud of and we are. It's not ego. About Palestinians, they choose the way they live. And they will stay this way until they stop hate us more then they love their children/life.
I am a Palestinian and I must say I couldn't agree with you more. We shouldn't hate Isralis the way we do, not that your gunships that rip open our children on the beaches matters, not even our women who get bombed during pregnancy matters, and obviously not that my younger brother who was arrested by Israli police in suspicion of planning attacks on the Jewish land matters. He was only 9 years old when I received his dead body parts in a plastic bag with vibrant and welcoming Hebrew letters.
But let's not talk about the poor souls who die in Palestine by your gunfire on a daily basis. I condemn Hamas for attacking Israel in the first place, and by the virtue of God, they could only manage 11 kills for the astounding 1000+ kills by your forces the past few months in Palestine.

Dear neighbour, I can't say that I'm sorry for your losses as I have mine. They include my own reconstructed ankle, my friends (thanks god not my family) dead or injured in suicide bombings by your people. "Illegal occupation" can be claimed by both sides. The fact is that we both living on this little piece of land. They have same kind of friendship with Jordan, Egypt, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and others. Actually in the beginning, USSR supported Israel. You rest my case by describing what each side have. What I try to say, is that it will lead to nothing , but more blood spilled if we(you and me) don't change our approach. And it's simply accept the fact that both of us will live here and have to share. This way, your people will be able not only doing "dirty" work like constructions, but actually go to universities, get some education and be equal in all terms.
