THE US SUPREME COURT has thrown out the Federal Trade Commission's anti-trust appeal against Rambus Inc.
The FTC said Rambus engaged in illegal monopolistic behaviour by deceiving the industry.
It brought a suit against the memory firm in 2002, claiming the firm failed to disclose patent rights to four technologies included in the industry standard. It then demanded patent royalties from firms using the standard.
Rambus said it did nothing wrong and eventually the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit found the FTC case lacking.
The FTC turned to the Supremes to get them to overturn the ruling. They declined.

STOP!... in the name of international patent registration
Before you break, more laws
A "pleased" Rambus will now be going back to its lawyers to get its patent royality claims up and running again. µ
This comes as no surprise since the American government prefers to protect big business over the consumer. America has no consumer protection again the big corporate giants and will do what it needs to protect those with the most money. Bank bailouts anyone? Rambus is a despicable company that never should have been allowed to get away with what they did.
