Daily Wibble Affordable X58 with bells and whistles
Saturday, 21 February 2009, 00:00

THE 3D Professor has scored a new Supermicro mobo by the name of C7X58. X58-based, of course, and with the Nvidian NF200 chip, it can do a lot without breaking the bank.

BFG seems to have beaten Zotac to the watercooled GTX 295 race, and Guru 3D has the review to prove it. $729 might sound a bit risqué, but if you're that kind of geek...

Hardware Canucks has a showcase of the Silverstone Raven RV01 case. Traditionally expensive, this thing just oozes build quality.

Tweaktown and VR-Zone are both exploring Xigmatek's Thor's Hammer S126384 CPU cooler. We can't resist the pun but, according to the reviews, the cooler delivers some mythical performance.

Legion Hardware has Crucial's Ballistix Tracer 3x2GB PC3-12800 (ie: DDR3-1600) kit, on the bench. Its only drawback is it's rather inflated $325 price...

The Tech Lounge has a go at another X2 card, this one is the VisionTek Radeon HD 4870 X2 Redux. The card sports a 14 per cent overclock out of the box, and the price isn't that insane.

Anandtech has a roundup of mid-level power supplies, from 500W to 550W. An even dozen will let you pick the best for your mid-range rig.

Auzentech's X-Fi Forte 7.1  PCIe sound card is on test at XS Reviews. Despite being a fine addition to any PC, the £130 price tag is really too much, thinks Joe.

Nordic Hardware has some fine pieces of RAM on test. Corsair's Dominator 1866C8 TEC 3x1GB kit is Peltier+liquid cooled, but the Peltier (the costly bit) doesn't add much to the cooling.

Hexus also has some advanced RAM, also from Corsair. These are the Dominator GT DDR3-2000 3x2GB kit. This is as good as it gets, right now, but you'll pay through the nose: $579.99.

The Nox Myth PC case, at Tech Reviews, introduces some nice features that says the company's been paying attention to the market.

Bit Tech gathered up some Core i7 coolers and put them through their torture tests. Akasa takes the cake: well priced and better performing.

Laptop Magazine is covering li'l Archos and its Archos 7 portable media player. This is a 160GB unit with a 7-inch screen that won't fit in your pocket but it will run video for 10 hours+. µ
