AUSSIE CONSUMER WATCHDOG CHOICE has barked for an industry code of practice for mobile phone premium services such as ring tones, horoscopes and wallpapers.

The outfit said that the phone industry was using poor practices that frustrate consumers with dodgy contracts and hard-to-read misleading fine print.

In a survey conducted recently by the consumer group, half of the 431 people surveyed received one or more unsolicited messages and two thirds were charged for them. µ

Good to see some sense.

These things are complete rip-offs. An ongoing contract at 10e per month for bying a ringtone and adverds targeted at kids who don't understand these things? And the parents are left scartching their heads.

Besides, the cost to manufacture (send the ringtone) is neglible to the sellers.

Now, if only someone in the EU would grow a pair and take a good look in this business.

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
