Online jobsites flooded with CVs

Career sites get a bit swish

UK ONLINE  RECRUITMENT SITES are being flooded with job applications as the unemployment rate starts to soar.

According to online recruitment analyst Peter Stanley, there are six or seven CVs to every job in some areas. This means that there is not only stiff competition between job seekers, but also between the online recruitment sites which need to get people hired before they can make a buck.

Gizza-job

Gizza job

One site UpMo is providing recruitment software to help people shape their career paths. The press release was packed full of jargon phrases like roadmap and career goals. Apparently the software plots your career alongside other successful people.

Apparently if I was Alexander the Great I would have conquered most of the known world and be dead by now.

But the site is doing what many others are trying and that is adding value in the hope of getting the biggest database of jobseekers.

Meanwhile other jobseekers are hitting the social notworking sites for work. Some of the more professional sites where you have 'contacts' and not 'friends' are reporting a boom in sign-ups as people try unusual methods to find work.

And what are the employers looking for? According to Stanley it is the usual suspects, really. Java and SAP skills are still in demand. And there are still a few Cobol jobs floating around from those outfits with aging machines that have not shipped themselves off to India yet.

Stanley added that there were still shortages of people with management and IT skills. But IT headhunters are a thing of the past and geeks are going to have to look for jobs like everyone else for the next two years.

He said that the job situation is not as dire in Blighty as it is in the US, although it could go that way if things don't pick up fast. µ

before you know it we'll have an economic recession

Gosh, at the current rate of job losses, we'll have an economic recession before long.

UpMo is a "career GPS"...

UpMo positions itself as a Career GPS, not a job search solution. Digging into the site (and as echoed in their press release), it's clear that they recognize the distinction between "careers" and "jobs", and provide a solution to service/manage the former. How is this relevant to job searchers? Well, having a career plan and knowing what's required to get from point A to B makes for a more effective job search.

yes, but...

if you were Bill Gates, you'd be happy and loaded...somehow, I don't think UpMo has old Alexander on their roster of models..

HR Connexions

We really don’t understand the beginning of your article.
2 areas:
1. As an online recruitment company we experience an average of 120 applications per vacancy (not 6-7) and this is rising.
2. Comments about how online recruitment companies have to make a placement before they "get their buck"? I think you may be confusing this with recruitment agencies.

Just to clear a few things up about the industry:

Online recruitment job board sites - Attract the applicants through various means.
They either sell advertising space to recruitment agencies or employers and charge up front for doing this.

a href="http:" / Flat Fee Recruitment /a or Online Recruitment Companies
Like www.hrconnexions.co.uk Use internet tools to help the employers streamline their recruitment processes. They rely on a low cost and up front fee to cover advertising on the job boards and then any service involved in filtering and communicating with the applicants. For companies who are still recruiting and looking to reduce their recruitment costs this a cost effective option and an industry that is growing.

Recruitment Agency / Head Hunters
Find candidates and then introduce to a company and then charge a large fee for the privilege and “get their buck”

Hope we have cleared up a bit about some of the jargon in the industry
