People power forces Facebook U-turn
SOCIAL NARCISSISM SITE Facebook is revising the changes to its terms and conditions it dumped on users a couple of weeks ago, after the users revolted.
Writing on his bog, Facebook face Mark Zuckerberg said "questions and comments" about the changes caused much soul searching at Facebook HQ.
"Many of us at Facebook spent most of today discussing how best to move forward. One approach would have been to quickly amend the new terms with new language to clarify our positions further. Another approach was simply to revert to our old terms while we begin working on our next version."
In the end the firm, "decided to return to our previous terms of use while we resolve the issues that people have raised."
The terms will still be revised... it's just a question of the firm deciding what it thinks it can get away with. µ

If I read a Web site or other service's terms and conditions, which maybe I do more often than most folks (but that could be a biased perception, really I have no data), and the terms say something like, "We can change the terms in future any way we like without telling you first, and you are deemed to agree to the new terms if you continue to use the service - or just because we told you this now", then I think twice about what content I may transmit to that service, or whether I even use it at all.
I don't know why they do something like that. Maybe it's because they are grabby for content. Maybe they think it gives them a legal defence, which it probably wouldn't, when they are taken over by SkyNet whose policy is to use your personal data and pictures for the purpose of sending Arnold Schwarzenegger to hunt you down and killing you. But for me, bottom line, if you are reserving the right to change the rules of our game unilaterally whenever you like (whether I have to pay? whether I can quit?), then I consider "the only way to win is not to play".
Whatever happened to the Microsoft EULA style:
"I have altered our deal, pray that I don't alter it any further."
Since when do they care about what users think?
This happened a few days after I uploaded pictures I took, I removed them, but I should have listen to my inner voice not to because the terms are vague as they are now.
Now it looks like they, like many other companies are picking at the copyright lock.
At least I know and can prove where I took these photos if ever they are used against my reservations.
