China control fails to muzzle story of the year

Hacks burn down state-run telly station
Thu Feb 12 2009, 12:49

CHINESE AUTHORITIES have lost the battle against Internet journalists who showed how a state run-media outlet burned down its own TV station while having an illegal fireworks party.

Official word was that no one was supposed to cover the blaze which killed one fireman. But the story was broken by Internet bloggers armed with cameras and now the world plus dog knows.

Even the edict which said that the Chinese press could not cover the blaze was leaked.

The state-run channel CCTV is becoming increasingly unpopular in China as it has recently failed to report important public interest news such as the contaminated milk scandal which led to six children dying and nearly 300,000 falling ill. µ

"The estimate is closer to few millions in Tibet ..."

and just how did you come to that number? pulled it out of your ass?? tibet never had "few million" people to start with.

it is the over-sensationalised western media that drives such moronic impressions into morons like you.

For all you uneducated haters, Tibetan population in Tibet was 1.3 million in 1950, but 5 million today, that is 300% growth, while Han Chinese themselves only increased by about 200%; infant mortality has dropped from 43% in 1950 to 0.661% in 2000; life expectancy has risen from 35.5 years in 1950 to 67 in 2000.

secondly, though there are mass arrests, and heavy suppression for independent movements (and I'd argue which country wouldnt if it is considered treason?) there has never been mass murders.

thirdly, Tibet has no oil or any other significant minerals, chinese keep such a strong grib of tibet for some 60 years because they believe it is part of China, just like Americans would not allow some Siouxs to just declare independence in the Great Plains, or Russians would not allow some Tartars to declare independes somewhere in the southeastern region.

@interested_party

Yep,

They didn't kill only 200,000. The estimate is closer to few millions in Tibet ...

Just that there's no CNN to show it to you, dear "Interested_party", doesn't mean it doesn't happen

When you get to the top,

you can do any f#cking thing you want!

It's the same the world over. At least the Chinese haven't run around killing over 200,000 women and children for some oil over the past 5 years.

Back to the video, that building is just going up like a fire cracker. It's shocking how easily and how well it's burning. I'm guessing that the sprinkler system failed, the furniture itsn't fire retardent, the ceiling panels aren't fire retardent etc etc. It's staggering, did everyone make it out alive? I seriously doubt it. Maybe this will mean that improve their fire regulations.

Secrets

The Chinese government just doesn't get it. It's the dishonest secrecy that is the worst about them. Every time they get caught lying, it's worse than the mistake. They may be an old civilization, but the rulers act like dishonest little children. (not that my country's leaders are less self absorbed)
Thanks for the links.

34 Story Hirise Burns Like a Torch

This hirise kept burning for hours with large flames. Exploding fireworks could be heard in the initial stages of the fire. The building had been built with somewhat funny shape but the fire did not cause any structural damage. It will probably be repaired and put back in operation quickly.

The best video I've found is here:

Media Gleichgeschaltet

Great! Unfortunately it is not just China where information, the truth and the people are being suppressed. How much information do we get about ACTA from the big media, just to name a current issue that will affect us all?

INQ Poll

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
