AIMING TO CASH in on an upcoming wave of 3D Hollywood blockbusters, NEC says it will roll out its digital projectors to Odeon cinemas across Europe.

NEC's digital NC1600s will let 3D-bespectacled movie goers 'ooh' and 'ahhh' their ways through films like Disney's Bolt and Dreamworks' soon-to-be-released Monsters Vs Aliens.

NC1600Cs are integrated DLP cinema projectors which house both the lamp power supply and projector head in the same unit. NEC reckons they've been developed to specifically cater to medium-sized screens and boast 17,000 Lumens and precise 2K (2048x1080) resolution.

Drew Kaza, executive vice president of Odeon's digital development noted, "3D digital provides the total cinematic experience – you feel the drama literally unfolding all around you."

DreamWorks Animation's Monsters vs Aliens, was actually rendered and animated with Intel's InTru 3D technology and can be shown on any type of 3D display technology, but an Intel spinner told the INQ, "The more cinemas are 3D capable - the better the end customer experience will be". µ

Nice try

NEC is so far behind the times. Christie Digital projectors have been doing this for a few years already, and they continue to advance. No wonder they have 80% of the market.

Unlikely...

The 1600 has been around for a while. More than likely, the story was meant to talk about the Real-D or Dolby 3D add-ons which that projectors supports.
