Apple Quicktime Pro free-for-all unlikely

Rumour Snow Leopard won't include multimedia toolkit
Wednesday, 11 February 2009, 15:06

RUMOURS THAT APPLE'S NEXT VERSION OF OSX (Snow Leopard) will include a full version of Quicktime Pro are almost certainly a load of old tosh.

The 'player' version of Quicktime currently comes free with OSX and Macolytes wishing to go beyond basic video viewing have to stump up additional cash to upgrade to the full set of tools (unless using any of the Cupertino company's 'pro' applications).

Before and after

The rumours are based on copies of the next generation OSX, already seeded to developers. These copies purportedly already include a fully unlocked version of the Quicktime software. But what would be the point of Apple distributing hobbled software to its tame coders?

Apple has announced it will be revamping Quicktime in time for the next OS release but the chances of it losing this particular revenue stream are pretty slim in our not so humble opinion. µ

here's why

there is more functionality in iMovie 09 than in Quicktime Pro, therefore no need for it to be a paid app.

Still crap

Pro or not, it's still crap. It's like getting a "free" Pro version of Real player.

I hate Real Player...

I hate Real Player, the picture is not sharp at all. And it eat up resources, plus the video file can be emdded with mal-code / viruses...

Although QT is none of the above, but QT is starting to become heavy, eating up resources...

Wat

Didn't I mention something about Quicktime Pro last week?

Anyway, it's quite useless to get something "pro", when it's already free. One great example is the VLC media player. Hell, even Windows Media Player can do most of the stuff QT Pro can do and it's free.

Money, money, money, money, money.
