Telefonica signs up to Linux phones

MOBILE LINUX has been given a boost after the largest mobile operators in the world joined the wireless Linux foundation LiMo.

Telefonica, along with five other major operators, say they will sell phones using LiMo's open software this year.

LiMo is an alternative to leading operating systems from Nokia, Apple, Microsoft and Google.

Apparently mobile operators like LiMo, because they have more control over software development, which makes them more competitive. µ

One lump or two?

I've never owned a cell phone but this is pretty interesting. Any phone that ships with Linux is an instant classic. People will be tweaking that software for decades to come. Contrast that with the predictable end of life support you get with a proprietary operating system. If it's my hardware why do I feel like it's on a lease?

I wouldn't be afraid to do a fresh install on a Linux phone. Windows probably wants an DNA sample for that.

Be real, be sober.
