No mention of a phone either
Unless "release" has a new definition I'm not aware of, I think you mean "announce" since this looks to be nowhere near release.
The actual press release at http://www.archos.com/corporate/press/press_releases/ARCHOS-TI_020909_Final.pdf says "ARCHOS’ new Android-based IMT with voice functionality will be released in 3Q
2009."
Ok so it has a built in microphone and (loud)speaker, but it doesn't support bluetooth, gsm/umts and there is only a mention of a headphone socket not a headset socket. This really doesn't look much like a phone to me.
So it didn't actually release it.. and it's not actually a phone..
I'm lead to question whether this thing will actually even run Android and whether it will even be Archos doing it..
I'm not sure why there are so many "HHMMSS".
This is simply an Apple-esque evolution for Archos from their great Archos Media Player to an Archos phone. Thinks Apple iPod Touch to iPhone.
The Archos player uses a Texas Instrument ARM chip under the DaVinci label which has the ability to play HD video and is compatible with the GSM mobile standard. Archos uses embedded Linux as the OS.
Now we have an Archos phone which uses...a Texas Instrument ARM chip which can play HD video and is compatible with the GSM standard. And the Android OS which is based on....Linux.
As Darwin would say..."It's simple really...it's just evolution."
