WITH TODAY'S launch of the Phenom II X4 AM3 processors it looks like AMD has finally got a plan to go with its poker face.

Five new SKUs have been launched, all very attractive to the consumer on a budget, which right now is just about everyone. Only three will make it to retail, as we've said before, but those made the rounds across some 23 different sites, that have found plenty to talk about.
The Phenom II X3 720, in particular, has been acclaimed by most on-line reviewers as the hot item to pick up, as the low price and unlocked nature of the processor give it some extra oomph.
We've gathered the most notorious, explicit, naughty and riff-raffy of the reviews in a single 'to read' list of articles, in no specific order at all:
That's about it. µ
I've been wanting an AMD alternative to an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400, which is priced at around $180. The Phenom II X4 720 should be a good bet, running 200MHz slower (E8400 is 3.0GHz) but with one extra core. And it should be considerably cheaper.
720BE is impressive.
Now just give us a X4 unlocked (BE) AM3 CPU.
Seems nobody else found the two pins lying on the desk funny. I must have a warped sense of humour.
I've got mine unlocked the 4th core w/ biostar t-series 790GX board and easily over clocked it from 2.8ghz to 3.7ghz using cheap air cooling at the price of X3. Really a bargain.
