ACCORDING TO comparison site Top 10 Broadband, both Sky and TalkTalk (part of the Carphone group) are missing out in the surge of demand for mobile broadband.
"TalkTalk and Sky must be looking into ways of offering mobile broadband either as a standalone product or as part of a bundled deal," claimed Jessica McArdle.
"Failing to do so would amount to commercial suicide," she says. McArdle also revealed that O2 and Virgin Media's share of the UK broadband market has grown substantially after launching mobile broadband deals.
The site's data reveals that Orange appears to be faring badly in the war for mobile broadband customers. None of the top 10 mobile broadband tariffs comes from Orange.
3 UK currently holds the top slot on the site for the best mobile broadband deal, closely followed by Vodafone, O2 and T-Mobile. Orange comes in at a lowly 24th in the chart.
The site also reckons that sales of mobile broadband in the UK now exceed those of fixed line broadband. It calculates that the UK mobile broadband sector has revenues of around £36 million.
The INQ isn't surprised that Sky is missing out. One reader tells us she paid £50 to be connected to Sky's fixed broadband service back in November but – because of a Catch 22 situation over Mac codes – she still hasn't been connected.
Sky is blaming Tiscalli for holding onto the Mac code and BT Wholesale refuses to say what the Mac code is.
Sky won't connect without the Mac code and Tivalli won't release the information because she isn't its customer. Her only option is to disconnect the line and then reconnect again through BT. Madness.

Tiscalli, Tivalli, who are you talking about?
Having spent many long hours listening to a significant other who has to deal with such situations daily in her job in a relevant call-center I can tell you that nine times out of ten these problems are down to BT.
It is a shocking situation. NONE of the main broadband providers are free of the shackles of BT who are almost entirely unaccountable and massively incompetent.
Recent noises to the effect that BT needs less regulation flabbered my gast to the extend that I was unable to stand for some weeks.
All broadband providers can do is ask BT nicely to do what they are supposed to and hope to God that they don't balls it up or that the customer doesn't foolishly buy so much as a used rubber-band from Carphone Warehouse...
