That's almost as amazing as if the US government actually came up with an effective way to get people off of welfare.

The first paragraph says "for its cable subscribers" but later it says the user would have to enter their Comcast username/password, which implies they'd need to have broadband access (well, except I don't need a password to use broadband access, so none of this makes sense). If I can pay $10 a month for basic cable and get WiFi for free, that's great. If I have to pay $43 a month for broadband, just to get free slower WiFi, who cares?

If We The People would figure out that we can organize the same service ourselves for free, with wifi and a few backbones, we would not need Comcast. Perhaps Comcast realized what the basic problem with its business model is, finally, and is trying to get the people hooked on its service, like drug addicts.

I would bet everything that once Comcast destroys the DSL business the wifi suddenly wont be so "free" anymore. Kind of like a crack dealer.......
