Obama reverts to Canadian technology

Crackberry addict

SPECULATION IS rife that the new US president has reverted to pre-inaugural habits and is carrying a Crackberry 8830 again. The Torygraph carried a photo which seemed to suggest he has.

The Beast of Redmond spent last week trumpeting the fact that its technology is behind the Sectéra Edge - the only PDAphone to have certification from the US National Security Agency.

The Sectéra is made by C4 Systems which is part of US Defence contractor, General Dynamics. A great deal of play was made out of the fact that the Edge, being based around Microsoft's product, is less secure than a Crackberry which has its own Java based OS.

Firstly, the Edge is using Windows CE - not even Windows Mobile and, secondly, it runs a whole raft of secure protocols including the Secure Communications Interoperability Protocol (SCIP).

There are plenty of other good reasons for choosing the Edge over a Crackberry. For example, it's a world phone. Given that it handles both Cdmaone and GSM based networks (and supports 3G on either), it's hard to think of a single country where it won't work. Even North Korea.

There's also another useful facility which pundits appear to be overlooking. Its maker claims that the Sectéra is the only PDAphone to switch between classified and unclassified communications at the press of a key.

If RIM did want to compete, it would have to build a single handset that works on either Cdmaone or GSM based networks - not one or the other.

The Crackberry provider would also have to invest R&D and effort into securing SCIP compliance, although both makers do seem to support EAL 2+ for secure Nato communications.

That means the Edge will work secure while President Obama visits Blighty, of course. See a full list of the Edge's impressive specs here. µ

Research In Motion

The thing missing in the Article is the RESEARCH.

As mentioned the 8830 (nicknamed the World Phone) is GSM & CDMA , as is the new STORM (aka 9530 [9500 in Voda Euroland]).

As for security, yeah, M$ & Security synonymous, right? Riiiiight!

As for which one will work in Blighty, once again M$... need I say more? Secure White Screen of Death works great as an LED torch in a pinch, sweet!

How About Police Telephones....

Secured Police Bandwidths Should be In Order for Commander. How about say two or more Approved Phones & talk into both, back & Forth. That Way Orbies, Ghosting of Communications might be vastly reduced.Might Try Coin Phone, especially those sleazy knock off brands w/ NO Number Listd & NO usual features. ST drashek

Also

While the BlackBerry OS runs applications written in MIDP, it is hardly "Java based" itself.

On a scale from 0 to Fail, this article approaches Windows Vista.

O’ Lord, Forgive Us For We Know Exactly What Are Doing …

Multiplicity of choice aims to confuse and trap the unwary, the addicted and the stupid-cum-dumb [oka those who refuse to see]. Everyone, including the blind and the blinded, knows that in the land of the free [grab], all actions have only one motive and that is to sell/empower as the means to daylight robbery.

So, why not have all phones and then allocate the individual phone [per its characteristics] to a particular grouping – like for addiction and issues regarding dumbness, give “them” the iPhone number. For political/war-mongering issues, let ‘em have the Xcherry number, and ensure that the phone for the Republicans is always left hanging in the bog – sans parfum’/deodouriser. That way, they can save a mint and fire those expensive, always baiting, sophisticated statements for high fashion-cum-power called “secretaries” of whatever gender & guise.

“Look, Berry O’ Nut, that is not how the high and almighty offices of omnipotency, which can destroy the universe with the push-of-a-button, works … which page of the Bible were you reading from ... eh?” ‘The page that foretold about the ease of a camel going through the eye of a nee ….. hey, are these “Christians” or what ….’ Aahhh news, what shall we do without them … “Small Sister” perhaps, or how about “Dethroned Roadies”, or just go shopping .. for zer really Big Vuns ... Afterall, fashion is nothing if not for its statements … of idiocy-cum-lunacy.

Biased article poorly written

The author makes much of the Sectéra being a world phone, but as has already been pointed out, the RIM device also fits the bill.

Security should be a big consideration here, but the article is hard to take seriously when some paragraphs sound like they were written by a 12 year old fanboy. Since when did the Inq start hiring shills for Microsoft?

It has been widely publicized that Obama will continue using the Blackberry, so basically this is a non-story.

P.S. Some day Drashek will write an inciteful elegant comment, and no one will notice, because they won't read it.
