HAWAIIAN LEADERS ARE MIFFED that they have a slower internet connection than the rest of the US and have set up a commission to stick a rocket up the ISPs.

Governer Linda Linglehas introduced a bill that would establish a Hawaii Communications Commission to regulate all Internet service providers, including phone and cable.

It is not clear how Internet companies will be forced to offer broadband. And it doesn't propose any extra state funding for the project because it will be paid for by existing fees, so probably nothing to see here... move along please. µ

UHawaii Networking Pioneer

Interesting titbit: the University of Hawaii was the base for pioneering experiments in wireless networking back in the 1970s. The Uni had campuses scattered widely, and setting up leased-line connections between them would have been too expensive. And so the ALOHA network was born.

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
