From frites to chips
Thursday, 29 January 2009, 11:46

INTEL HAS UNVEILED its new Intel Labs Europe (ILE) today, with the firm hoping its latest European venture will advance architecture research, as well as develop stronger partnerships with European stakeholders for a European competitiveness boost.

With over 800 Intel R&D staff scattered across the European continent, Chipzilla already has a fair bit going on including chip design, software development, mobile communications and services, nanotechnology chip research and even research on tech to help the ageing population lead healthier lives.

ILE will aim for even closer collaboration with European researchers and policy makers, on all sorts of EU initiatives including 'exploratory research'. Much like the French, Intel reckons it has a lot to teach the EU on ways ICT could make industries more efficient and productive.

LabfolkThe firm says it will focus on visual computing, software development, enterprise 'solutions', green computing, advanced microprocessor research and high performance computing.

Chipzilla is also busily working away to set up two open labs in Munich, Germany and Leixlip, Ireland, whilst exploring the possibilities of teaming up with research programmes in Germany's University of Saarland and with SAP's R&D team. µ
