Nvidia names new research chief

Nibble Stanford man takes baton
Thursday, 29 January 2009, 12:47

MAKER of graphic chips, Nvidia has named Bill Dally the chairman of Stanford University's computer science department as its new chief boffin.

DallyDally will replace David Kirk who will become an Nvidia fellow and follow his own scientific leanings.

Dally takes the job just as Nvidia has declared war on Intel, so it should be fun. Cnet said Dally is a legend in the industry. µ

Missed opportunity

Charlie! Why didn't you apply for that job! We know you are better than him! You could teach something about bubbles! Oh no....

this is a good hire

Bill Dally is one of smartest computer scientists. His lab pretty much invented stream computing.

Go Intel and AMD!!!

I hope nvidia completely loses the upcoming graphics mega-wars. it will serve them right for trying to deceive their consumers. And by the way:"Cnet said Dally is a legend in the industry." CNET didn't say that, Huang said that. And Intel too has legendary people working on Larrabee, one of them Michael Abrash. And if ray tracing becomes the technology for next gen graphics, then nvidia probably won't be able to do anything. Intel and AMD have expertise in building general purpose cores.
