Army gives finger to biometrics

Nibble Wants better use of data
Thu Jan 29 2009, 18:02

THE US ARMY which once couldn't beat the British without French help, wants to use finger and eye scans to see if their own people are a potential enemy.

In Iraq the US has been using such scans to identify terrorists, if the troops can get close enough to do a hand scan. According to AP, the Army wants to do the same thing in the US but is tiggered by the fact that different bases have different identification requirements and access procedures for personnel or contractors trying to get onto the property. µ

dont make a bad situation worse

the us&a has decreasingly few allies/supporters as it is thanks to dubya & his mob's activities
they should start to be friendly to foreign nations instead of bombing and shooting them

He isn't embarrasing the US

Shahab isn't embarrassing the US. Neither is he saying we would want to whack the Brits. We may not see eye to eye with them always but they are our allies and more like us than any other country. I read his comments as supporting the US. Now the idiot who wrote the original piece above.... different story. I would say the Army's use of biometrics has greatly improved their ability to secure their bases from possible terrorists, identified and captured IED bombers from casual encounters that result in matches to latents lifted from devices, etc. Anything that has taken almost 2000 extremists and bombers out of circulation so they can no longer ply their trade killing Americans is a good thing. Kudos to the Army for embracing the technology.

Americans love the Brits (really)

@Shahab: shut up. If you're an American, you're embarassing us. If you're not, stay out of it.

Is this your first time reading the inq? And, yes, it was 200 years ago.

Celebrate the 4th of July lately?

So the US army once couldn't beat the English without the help of the French, eh? Maybe 200 years ago. Now the British empire spans from one end of a tiny island to the other and is nothing more on the world stage than the US's symbolic ally.

INQ Poll

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
