RUSSIA'S Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has rebuffed an offer by Michael Dell to help the Russians build their infrastructure.

You can shove your computers right up your...
Dell made the offer at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland after Putin's speech.
Dell asked "How can we help" you with your country's IT infrastructure, but Putin told him to go forth and multiply.
He said Russia didn't need Michael's help thank you very much. "We are not invalids. We don't have limited mental capacity," Putin snapped.
To make matters worse, Putin said that the glorious Russian scientists were respected for their software, not their hardware. We guess he thinks that it was not worth being respected for hardware. µ

Er, what exactly what software was the Russian President, whoops, excuse me, I mean the Russian Prime Minister referring to??? If he's referring to piracy, viruses and hackers then yes, your great Socialist Republic is LEADING the way!!!! Russia forever!!!! Salute salute!!!

Putin just became my personal hero!
The US is run by big business and how would you discribe them ? They just stole how many trillions, started a war for oil and killed well over 100,000 people. Enforces laws that do not excist on its own citizens IE: personal income tax(16th admendment never ratified)there is no personal income tax law in the US, But like Ron Paul says " They have all the guns ". Your personal income tax goes to a private bank all of it, not the government. The US imprisons 2.3 million people #1 in the world, China 2nd and only has 1.6 million in prison and it has more then 3x the population. As far as hackers, viruses and piracy, the US leads the world in that aswell. So what could Dell offer, other then hardware that could be disable with by tranmititting a code or a OS co-developed with the NSA ?
Incorect translation, Putin dont sayd this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWwcVckT2Io
He sayd that Russia no nead any economic help. And that many other countries and poor people are nead that helps, not russia.
And we use HP in our Parliament and other Goverment structures :)
Again, I support previous comment from Leon. Putin didn't say that at all! Whay would Inquirer fake Putin's words? Do they have smth against Dell?
I amused the irony with which this article is composed. The truth is, you have (intentionally or not) distorted the original Putin's reply.
There was nothing offensive to Dell. And Putin did NOT tell about "limited mental capacity" and other stuff you're trying to refer as true.
You should first either learn Russian language in order to understand the speech, or simply to obey journalist's ethics.
People, this article is a bunch of bull. I speak russian, putin never said "“We don’t have limited mental capacity". He said "my ne invalidy" which means we are not crippled. "Invalid" in russian does not mean "mentally retarded", it refers to people with restricted abilities. "Invalid" in Russian is never used to mean "mentally retarded". Man, that's hilarious. The interpreters are just losers.)))
Not being a fan of Big Bob's, I really have to say that the article smacks of bad sensationalism. Putin may have implied some not-so-pleasant things answering Dell's question, but it was done far more subtle than he usually does it here on Russian TV. At least give him credit of being diplomatic enough to be able to find a polite phrasing when making speech on a large-scale international conference.
Isn't it great that the CEO of a mere company can sit at the same meeting as the leader of a former superpower, and totally put him on the defensive? Hilarious.
I have just one question? Is there still anti-Russia propaganda? that's just hidious
It seems apologies are in order - I've just watched the original footage with translation from Russian to English. Obviously it's all the interpreter's fault. I've always wondered where do they find those mentally challenged interpreters for our highest-level officials...
So Putin's words "We're not disabled people, the ones who need help are people with limited abilities, old people..." were translated as "we're not .... invalids... we don't have some... any... limited mental ability..." is this the translation acceptable (knowing who and where does the speech)? I think not... So while Russia doesn't need help with computers, it still needs some with language schools.
The only one with limited mental capacity here, is the translator, who has a lexicon of a 10 year old.
The translation is absolutely inaccurate - word for word and contextually. Moreover, the article portrays Dell as if it was offering help from itself, but in fact Dell was speaking for IT industry in general.
All in all the answer wasn't harsh - I don't see what the big deal is all about.
Yawn. Your arrogance deserve not very polite answer, but... anyway.
What software you ask? I won't give a whole list, don't worry, but just one- Google? Maybe you've heard about it. Software developer is Russian, Sergey Brin. Use it to find out about the rest.
PS. Just if you curious- Russia is not socialist republic, but federation, and salute is french. In Russian "salut" means fireworks. Sleep well.
Fourth post "psychopathic" is right. The USA will be socialist before we know what hit us with the new regime in charge. The majority must want that since they voted those left sided kooks into power. The US is not free, it is only a delusion. My house is paid for but I still will never own it. I now rent it from the government. If I don't pay my over inflated taxes every six months the police will show up, throw me out and take it.
The live synchronous translation was abhorrent. Here are Mr. Putin's words: "You know, the thing (trick) is, there is no need to help us. We aren't disabled (Russian word invalids). Actually, there is a need to help, to help the poor, to help people with limited abilities, a need to help retirees, there is a need to help developing countries where there [are]...
Invalids: Many interpreters will use the word with same root while there are times when that shouldn't be done. An example is Russian invalid (a noun) should be translated to English (at least American English) as disabled (I have since learned that it is acceptable, however, I stand by the idea that it would be much better translated into AmE as disabled). But that was the least of the translation problems given in the video posted above. As an interpreter, you have the leeway to make imperfect translations as long as you keep the general meaning.
Now, synchronous interpretation is very difficult, but there are times when you have to go back and restate what you have translated before. Was that one of those times? Not sure.
To the press: I realize that you simply can't have every word of an interpreter rechecked, but at least maybe you should do it before publishing scandalous (?) material. Some things can be lost in translation.
Who can forget Starforce. ;)
Er, Russia didn't invent Google and Sergey Brin was a 'co founder' along with Lawrence Page (forget that tiny fact did you?). Sergey and family emigrated to the US when he was 6 so how excatly was russia involved again?
I'm feeling generous today so here's some free advice before you post something else idiotic on the net - 'think before you type'
The idea is that even Tetris was created by Russian :)
Well. I can see that i hit right to the target, if you became so rude. I also noticed that u've used Google to find info (in wiki, i guess;)), but u was a bit lazy to read the whole article. I'll help u a bit, though it's quite clear that u just a trivial nationalist.
"...(Sergey Brin)the son of Michael Brin and Eugenia Brin, both graduates of Moscow State University. His father is a mathematics professor at the University of Maryland, and his mother is a research scientist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center."
Does it ring a bell? That's how Russia (with big R by the way) involved, and this is quite generous to USA. And co-found and "invent" Google is the same in this case. Isn't it? So feel generous to the end and give a free advice to yourself to think before you type ("something else idiotic"), and don't insult another people or even the whole country. This boomerang hits back, you know!
So Putin's response is understandable.
