Mobile phone kids likely to get hit by a car

Nibble Pointless study of the day

KIDS chatting on mobile phones are more likely to get hit by cars while crossing the street, according to a fairly obvious finding from US university researchers.

Apparently when kids multitask while trying to cross the road they are less likely to have the awareness to spot speeding cars, the study from University of Alabama at Birmingham researchers said.

Kids using mobile telephones looked both ways for oncoming traffic 20 per cent less, gave themselves less time to cross, and were 43 per cent more likely to get hit by cars or have a "close call."µ
