Steve Jobs undergoing surgery Monday

Surgery for a hormone imbalance? fancy that
Tue Jan 27 2009, 10:29

APPLE Messiah Steve Jobs who is definitely not sick, is apparently undergoing surgery at Stanford Hospital, for something he doesn't have, according to the Dark Satanic Rumour Mill.

Valley Wag appears to have got the news from an employee who works at Stanford. Apple has been keeping silent about what is wrong with Jobs, despite pressure from shareholders to come clean about how ill he really is.

Jobs is currently on medical leave from Apple while he recuperates from health problems that have caused him to lose significant weight. Two weeks ago reports had it that Jobs was considering a liver transplant.

Apple fanboys have been facing the problem that Steve has been telling the world plus dog that he just needs a bit of time off, therefore they must believe him. However the fact is that it is increasingly looking like he is suffering from something a bit serious and might not be telling them the full truth.

Apple declined to comment on what a representative called rumours and speculation, but then again it rarely comments on anything negative. Valley Wag has been slammed in the tech press with most saying the story is completely untrue and that "Steve was in the office today".

However as the Wag points out, all the comments appear to be identical and it seems that the same source has been briefing all the magazines with the same line.

It said that Jobs and Apple have offered so many misleading disclosures about the status of his health that anything goes really. It wants to know, if Jobs is on a six-month medical leave, with COO Tim Cook running Apple in his absence, why is he attending meetings? µ

I see some brits are even more stubborn then my native country russians...

Explaining to you slowly:

Imagine several dacades from now TheInq became the most famous computer magazine and Charlie, or better, you, Nick, its CEO, owner and publisher, became as renowned as this guy you are now barking on. One time you went with your keynote talk to Las Vegas CES-2020 and got, sorry, syphilis in some resistent form requiring you leave the company for a while. Would you tell everyone in the world what your problem is? And then, if things get worse, would you behappy that some noone write the crap you are producing right now?

Be a person first

Hey ***hole, whatever you think about Apple, Jobs is still a human being and he's sick. Maybe someday you'll grow up and know when to poke fun and when to offer support.

I'd say the same thing if it were Bill Gates with Cancer. At some point this online rag out to get an editor and draw a line. Realize your market you dumb &%*#

In a similar fashion to the moron writer who thought it would be fun to make fun of the family killed by its father/husband, another moron writer doesn't know any better than to write the same old s*** about Steve Jobs even though this story isn't the same old s***. The guy has cancer and he might be dying; have some consideration.

Is it unreasonable, given today's economic climate, to try and put a good face on what may be a serious illness?
Short answer - No.

Truly, all you do by writing in this manner is show how little you have in common with decency.

Fun is fun, done is done.
Grow up, better yet just go away. There is so much drivel on this site anyway, I don't see why this rag needs you.

Hey Inq, isn't it time to do some downsizing? - start with this guy.

@ two wrongs etc

The fact that I made comment is not a contradiction....I have not entered the debate about what is wrong with guy...but merely make comment about people assuming they have the right to know his personal business.

"And what has it got to do with you anyway?"

yet you commented all the same technogiant.

Only at fanboy apple could stock shares tumble because the ceo has the cold. He isn't irreplaceable.

No, you read it wrong, it's not a liver transplant, it's a liver PATENT. Jobs invented the liver. Hail the Great Leader.

I missed the article on the....

CEO of company "XYZ" being sick. Oh that's right we only report on Apple CEO's health and only Sick Nick can do it. I also missed his article on Apple's earnings... I guess even he couldn't find a way to spin it negatively, thus it doesn't get reported. (good news = no news)

And for the IDIOTS talking about the likely lawsuit against Apple for misleading investors about Job's health, one minor problem. Not only do they need to prove that they were mislead about Job's health, but also that Apple's performance is MATERIALLY different without Jobs at the helm. That will probably be nearly impossible to prove in court.

It's not just whether Apple lied folks, it's about demonstrating the impact of that lie. You can't simply point to stock price with and without as there are hundreds of other variables (besides Jobs' health) that affect stock price. This isn't a case of did they hide debt, or provide intentionally mosleading revenue or profit forecasts. And on a separate note - is there anyone on the INQ who has misgivings about the continued articles and hit pieces on Jobs' health. He appears to be significantly ill, yet I see noone with an issue publishing continued articles (which in some case are links to rumor sites) about his health which really don't advance any journalistic story. I can only imagine the articles Nick will publish when Jobs passes on (or will he somehow suddenly decide maybe it's inappropriate and be resppectful)

@technogiant

"it's sad that those surrounding him have to fight off the press just to try and preserve his privacy" There's a big difference between simple celebrity and financial reporting requirements. Obviously, people _are_ interested in Jobs' health, but deliberately misreporting to shareholders and the SEC (if that is what's happened), particularly if the intent was to affect stock prices in a known direction, would be a Very Bad Thing.

Yes, this is no one's business...

Which is why the SEC has announced they are investigating this whole thing for violation of SEC regulations, or even securities fraud. It's possible Mr. Jobs has lied to the board of directors by providing conflicting information or refusing to reveal the whole truth. If that's true, Mr. Jobs has perpetuated securities fraud. Pretty simple, actually.

@iFollowers

Yes, the health status of any 'celebrity' like him is usually of public interest and reporting it in the media is pure journalism, specially when they obviously try to hide it so bad. He didn't care about being in the public eye when he was making money, by the way. And I'm sure that Nick's current health condition is not worth an article.

Democratic People's Republic of Apple (DPRA)

Jon G: Now that you mention it, I have started to notice that St. Eve of Jobs and Kim Jong Il look a lot alike. And have you ever seen them in the same room together? Thought not!

Farrell you are sick

in the head that is. Firstly any CEO who steps down for 5 months for medical reasons is suffering from more than the sniffles. It's likely that anyone needing that much time will need medical investigations or procedures. Big surprise.
Secondly medicine isn't a precise science; it can take a long time to get a diagnosis. Why therefore do you repeatedly insist that there's some sort of conspiracy Apple to prevent you, the press, from finding out things (that frankly aren't your business) when they might not know the answer themselves?
Thirdly you've got this bizarre idea that anyone who isn't well enough to run a company must therefore be confined to bed and unable to do anything. Health isn't a three state thing (well enough to work, bedridden, dead). Being well enough to attend a few meetings isn't the same as being well enough to handle the full load of running a company.
Finally I think that it's in the public's interest to see YOUR medical records and history. Are you going to post them on the web? (thought not).

The guy is ill....just because he is in the public eye does not mean that his life belongs to us all to paw over...what procedures he has or does not have are his personal business...it's sad that those surrounding him have to fight off the press just to try and preserve his privacy

Is it MY imagination...

...Or is this glorified blog becoming more and more about stories that other wbesites are running about Apple? I know advertising revenues must be plummeting at the moment, and all, (and while posting inaccuarte stories about 'Linux', or something, is great for driving page impressions, those open source guys are actually best known for NOT paying for stuff, so advertisers aren't fooled by that sort of trickery for long).

I suppose the only option left, then, is to try and piss off the people who've demonstrated that they still have lots of disposable income. If you're going to persist with this course of action, though, I really think you should start littering your pages with adverts for iWorks and pictures of MacBook Pros - since the only people still reading this junk are the sort who buy that stuff. Either that, or do a Lester Haines, and not actually let on that you found the original story on Valley Wag (otherwise I might just go and read the story on Valley Wag, instead... at least, until that glorified blog can no longer afford it's web hosting bills, either).

All Hail Our Glorious And Immortal Leader!

Is it my imagination, or is Apple's management style becoming more like North Korea's every day? "Our Glorious Father is well and happy." (Trans: "He's not looking too great.") "He is in his office, working for our future." (Trans: "He's in intensive care, on life support.") "He has chosen to take time with his family." (Trans: "Ancestors, to be precise.") "He is on extended vacation." (Trans: "Starting to smell a bit.") I wish no ill for Steve Jobs, and I respect what he's done for Apple, but Apple's senior management needs to understand they have a fiduciary duty to AAPL's shareholders to be truthful about the CEO's state of health. Even if he is on leave of absence, his health has a clear, obvious and well-demonstrated effect on AAPL's stock price.

He needs liver transplant

"Bloomberg News reported last week that Jobs is considering a liver transplant as a result of complications from his cancer treatment, citing people who are monitoring his illness."
