Al Jazeera TV available on mobile phones

But not in Blighty
Monday, 26 January 2009, 13:20

IT APPEARS that famous pro-Islam TV station, Al Jazeera, can be accessed from mobile phones in certain European countries. But not here in Blighty, of course.

The TV station recently updated its information on the range of services which mobile phone users can get worldwide. The list of services naturally covers text/SMS and MMS/picture messaging.

However, the company also claims that a 'Mobile TV' service is available in certain countries via their WAP portals. The list of European countries which can receive this service includes Austria, Sweden and Denmark.

That's curious because the Danes got themselves into deep trouble over a cartoon which some muslims found offensive. Strangely all the Israeli WAP portals offer it.

The INQ tried to get onto the site whose URL is http://m.aljazeera.net via 3G (in this case T-Mobile) but couldn't get through. Pointing the Nokia browser at the site via Wi-fi worked perfectly, of course.

Al-that-jaz

The INQ wouldn't suggest anyone try this in the US. Didn't somebody get arrested for just inquiring if a TV set could receive the station?

It's also not surprising that Brits can't get the station via their WAP portals. One of the top stories on Al Jazeera today is about how the Beeb has refused to telecast a charity appeal for funds for Palestinians in Gaza.

Anyway, before the thought police come to arrest us, the story was first picked up by Nick Booth here. So there. µ

Hey, wait a second . . .

Al Jazeera is by far the most impartial news organisation on TV at the moment. If you actually watched it you would realise it isn't pro-Islam at all but neutral which is more than you can say for Sky or even the BBC. I am English and not a Muslim but if I want to get NEWS and not SPIN then I watch Al Jazeera.

New World Order

News in the USA,UK,Canada and Im sure others aswell now has nothing to do with the facts. We are not trusted with the true facts so we can make a informed intelligent opinion but it must be explained to us. The truth is what they decide what the agenda is today. Democracy is just a illusion we believe we have, but do not.

pro-Islam TV station

I don't think so mate. I am fortunate to speak both Arabic and English, comparing al-jazeera arabic to all others western channels (inc BBC) makes them look like a comedy show.
A football match gets more attention on the western media than the Gaza/Iraq/Afghanistan war. What else can I say, open your eyes and wake up, you are being lied to by the BBC (Biased Broadcast Company).

Good for them

Al Jazeera is an Arabic news TV station. Some of the staff are Muslims yes, but not all of them. They are trying to show you the other side of the story. The unofficial side ;)

Someone could misunderstand why you chose “Pro-Islam TV station” for Al Jazeera.

Not all Arabs are Muslims and not all Muslims are Arabs

Peace

wow

Wow Tony! You really dropped the ball with the pro-Islam statement didn't you?

I suggest it's time to update your view of Al Jazeera before writing any more opinion pieces on it.

I must admit until only a few months ago my opinion of it was "that Arabic station that showed the beheadings", but some simple digging (the internet is an amazing invention!) cleared that up in no time.

Time for you to do some research!

Impartiality

Al-Jazeera has offended just about everybody in the Middle East. They quote reports from Haaretz. They are accused by Israel of being pro-Arab, and by Arabs of being pro-Israel. The US targeted them twice in Iraq, and got their Baghdad office permanently shut down.

Just for fun, go find yourself a copy of the doco “Control Room”, which covers the lead-up to the invasion of Iraq.

who is truely impartial

we are all the sum of our experiences so the BBC will present its news on the basis of being a western organisation comprised mainly by people from western culture and predominantly to a western audience.
Please don't try and preach that Al-Jazeera is the light and the truth so to speak as it is equally biased along middle eastern lines.
People should just stick to what suits their view point rather than trying to impose their view on others....Uhm just thought...the same could be said about religion...if some peoples could learn that lesson perhaps there wouldn't even be and east west divide.

Biased

Well, Bloody Biased Corporation (BBC) and Chicken Noodles Network (CNN), are successful in their imperial works biased against Asia.
