Sony posts bigger loss than expected
First negative numbers in 14 years

SONY HAS POSTED a much much bigger than expected operating loss of $2.9 billion.
It is the first loss the company has had in 14 years and is a dramatic reversal from last year's figures which were a huge profit.
Welsh wizard Chief executive Howard Stringer, plans to tackle the situation by speeding up restructuring and closing a television plant in Japan.
Sony will also outsource software development to India, reduce its executive bonuses and introduce an early retirement programme. µ

They could have sold more PS3 systems, which would have increased their total losses for the year. Last I heard Sony was still taking a hefty loss on every unit sold.
On Nov 25 I went to Sony shop on high kensington to buy myself an Xperia X1 that I craved for. They, SONY employees, told me I cannot get their, SONY, phone without a contract and that my 550GBP I was prepared to hand them over does not get me one if I dont't marry their favorite cell operator. I veoted with my wallet and get myself an HTC Touch HD and never looked back. I wonder if HTC is posting massive losses too?
