THE US FEDERAL Communications Commission has fined nine cable TV operators for not providing information about how they left some customers without a service when they upgraded to digital.

In his last day at the office, FCC Chairman Kevin Martin slammed the cable operators for their 'contempt' for ignoring the commission.

Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications, Charter Communications, Cablevision Systems, Bright House Networks, Harron Communications, Midcontinent Communications and Suddenlink Communications were fined between $7,500 to $25,000 – about $500,000 in total – and ordered to refund customers for failing to give 30 days notice about the switch from analogue to digital. µ
