Steve Jobs well enough to run Disney

Nibble It is just Mac fanboys who make him sick
Tue Jan 20 2009, 10:36

APPLE Messiah Steve Jobs has been too sick to work for his toy-making company, but is apparently well enough to work for another Mickey Mouse outfit.

Jobs has applied for re-election on the board of Disney. He is the largest single shareholder in Disney, with 7.4 per cent of the shares. There was some doubt if Jobs was going to be well enough to sit on the board, but he is apparently well enough to apply for re-election.

We can only assume that the job of being a director of Disney is not as challenging as being a god in the hardware industry. When he was fighting fit, during 2008, Jobs showed up at about three quarters of meetings required. µ

To mycelo:
Dragging in the parents of a poster (and implicating a serious mental illness) is way out of line and upfront personal.

And to you Mr. Farell - everybody is allowed to rant about almost anything, but to show now respect to the family of Mr. Jobs (hey, he's probably dying) is more than bad journalism. Leave your Anger with us mactard's or whatever you want to call a normal computeruser not using your OS of choice. Hope you're healthy and do not have to leave your job because of some illness.

Fanboyism

It's just amazing how easy is to tease iFanboys. You don't need to mention the obvious flaws of Apple products, and even talk about Apple itself. Just say something, anything about its CEO and you get a bunch of troubled guys suddenly raising the dosage of their ansiolitics. Better talk about their mothers.

Nick a column editor?

He'll be getting delusions of grandure. He's a hack who spends most of his time cobbling together re-writes of stories he finds elsewhere on the web, and he doesn't even research them very well. If he'd like to restrict himself to phrases like "bouncing Steve Balmer" or "the church of Jobs" then there's a degree of humour in it. As it is he seems to get quite personal and nasty whenever Steve Jobs r Apple is involved in a story (or even when he can sneak an anti-Apple comment into an unrelated story). The position of Director on the Disney board requires the commitment to turn up to at least 75% of board meetings over the period of a year. I don't know Disney's schedule but that's likely to be a couple of hours once or twice per month. He WAS doing this allongside of running Apple. Which is going to be harder on his health, running Apple full time plus a couple of meetings per month, or just a couple of meetings per month?

Jobs jobs?

"stellar technical, marketing, and customer service accomplishments"

But they ARE toys. His company makes most of their money selling overpriced entertainment devices to people who probably shouldn't be wasting money on them.

"his myriad responsibilities for tens of thousands of high-paying jobs"

Are you referring to the hundreds of thousands of people assembling iPods in Chinese sweatshops? Last I checked, those weren't exactly high paying jobs. In fact, the workers aren't getting paid more than a couple dollars a day. You'd think they could afford to pay them a little more, considering the 50% markup on all Apple devices. That Jobs is quite the humanitarian, isn't he? :)

Geesh

The guy's job is a column editor, he wrote an article that inspired thoughts and comments. He has contributed!
I chuckled at it's light hearted-ness, I don't think he has a vendetta out against Steve.
What have you done today that was thought inspiring or put a smile on someone's face?

Selfish, Callous and Cold

describes you Mr. Farrell, not Steve Jobs. The man is gravely ill, but do you expect him to just lay down and die because you're disappointed in his Apple decision? Must his behavior be according to your sanctimonious standards to avoid your cold-hearted scorn?

Pray that others don't treat you according to your own standards.

Hah

Hillarious! Thanks for the early morning laugh. Apple definitely launches the "fisher price" of electronic devices era.

INQ Poll

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
