Eidos admits it's on the market

Please raid our tomb
Fri Jan 16 2009, 17:40

EIDOS IS GAME for a takeover, admitting it is currently in talks with an array of handsome courters who might commit to it by buying up the company and all of its licences.

Eidos and its big daddy, SCi, has been praying for someone to put it out of its financial misery for a while now, but this latest company statement is the first in which the firm fesses up and admits a buy-out is a distinct possibility.

The statement announces the firm's board 'has received a preliminary approach which may or may not lead to an offer being made for the company', but warns it's still early days and "there can be no assurance that an offer will be forthcoming."

Ubisoft, Electronic Arts, Warner Bros and Square Enix are all rumoured to be potential suitors.

To the winner goes the spoils, and Eidos has some pretty significant ones, with licences for popular titles including Hitman, Tomb Raider and Deus Ex.

Stay tuned to find out if any of the above prospective buyers choose to take talks to the next level. µ

Another one bits the dust

Hmmm, a predominantly console game maker faces financial difficulties? How is that possible after so much talk about how consoles will save the game companies from vile pirates that we PC users are. It must be the piracy somehow, there is no way that crappy games and ports are to blame for this.

Shame for the good franchises though, all the potential buyers have their own competitors to these titles, if anyone buys it it would be to bury the titles. I don't mind though, leaves more room for some enterpreneuring Indy's to reach the spotlight.

Yu forgot to mention...

the Thief series. It's made of pure awesome! If someone does pick up Eidos, I really hope no one gets the bright idea of cannibalizing the aforementioned Thief series. It's fine as it is, let it go down in gaming history's hall of fame with its head up.

Eidos use to be good

Back in the day of Dues EX (It rocked) I was a fan of Eidos then came Dues Ex 2 and it was a horrible port job to PC from the kiddy consoles. Not near as detailed as the first. From there it has been downhill for them.
